I went through a similar "exercise" recently.  I was in the Canadian Arctic for about 6 months last year, and up there I had no cell phone, Internet was slower than dialup, and about 3 channels on TV.  The first 2-3 weeks were rough, you really get withdrawal.  But after a while you just get used to it, and you notice how much you really don't care!

Configuring satellite systems for the government.  Basically upgrading the 20 year old stuff with 10 year old stuff :D

They do have cell coverage in about half the cities, but its very old technology.  No 3G or any data for that matter, so everyone has really old cell phones that you can't even buy anymore lol.

One time last year the main dish went down, and we lost all tv internet and phone service for about 2 days.  Talk about the dark ages!

I am in. I have fallen behind. I didn't even do cards this holiday. That is usually my time to write notes to people to let them know I am thinking about them under the guise of a holiday tradition.

Those are hard letters to write, Bill. Such sadness, but yes, knowing that people care helps as much as it can.

I need to dig out my stationary. I have some nice notes and paper that are moldering in my desk.

the first letter is in the books - or in the envelope

i wrote to my ex FIL - a long long overdue personal thank you for my piano.  when i moved to PA i had to leave my piano in Omaha because there wasn't room in the apartment for it.  he paid to have it shipped to me.

it was so ironic - it arrived exactly, to the date 3 years from the day we physically moved  here.  so much has changed since then

my ex FIL loves writing letters and sent me several to keep me posted as my piano made the trip across the country. he seemed like a good first letter recipient

Getting two (maybe three) in this weekend.

1) Step daughter.. she needs to know that I think about here even when she doesn't need anything.

2)A co workers wife who lost her husband (my co worker) at Christmas time. Just to let her know she is still thought of after the funeral is over

3) my mom. Just cuz I can.

I'm in for this challenge.  My first letter will be to my sister.  She is a travel nurse, so when she is away she really doesn't get much in the way of mail.  Her last job was in Idaho and I sent her two packages, one with a letter.  She too likes to write letters instead of email, but since her travel nursing days, she has done more with email than she used too.

Howdy Kendra! There is nothing like getting a letter or a package in the mail, especially when you are not expecting one.

i wanted to tell her how grateful i am to have her in my life

i think the next letters will be to my mom and dad - separately, they've really been there for me

Two done, one in process. Next will be a couple of friends I haven't gotten to talk to in a while, those are going to be way easier to write.

What letters are being written this week?

I have one to a family friend we haven't seen much of lately, another who has lots of stuff going on in her life right now and another who's mother passed away, and one friend to just to send a "Hi, how are you?" letter.

Nothing yet but I did take my DD to dinner last night for a "Valentine's" date night.  She didn't realize it but we had a great talk about college and what she wants to do.

I asked her what makes her excited (and I used like me and bikes as an example) and she said she wants to travel.  So I gave her some suggestions on what type of careers she could look into.  A family friend went to England for 1 year out of High School and attended a Bible College and she is interested in that so I told her she should have her over for dinner with her boyfriend so they could talk about and get some ideas.

All in all it was a pretty fun night (at least for me ).

Need to contemplate who I will write to this week now I guess!

Those times with kids are rarer that gold-plated, platinum-gilt diamonds!
