Subject: 2013 IMTX

Just curious...I've heard rumors that IMTX will be moved to March in 2013.  Does anyone know if this is true and if a date has been set?

I ask because I am trying to plan a vacation for the 2013 spring break, but my hubby is planning to train for the 2013 race and I don't want the vacation to interfere with his training or the race.

Wow.  I'm planning on doing the IMTX 2013 race.  There would be a significant weather difference if IM moved it to March from May.  The weather last May was very hot and humid.  I wasn't racing in it but was just a spectator.  Also, If I remember correctly the athletes couldn't wear their wetsuits if they were trying to qualify for Kona - although I could be wrong.  I live in the area but have not heard this rumor but that means little.  You have definitely peaked my interest though.

I actually thought the weather was pretty nice last year.  The morning was actually cooler than aveerage and the overcast skies until mid afternoon really helped.  At least it wasn't August Hot!  It could be 90 or 40 in March.  Just like this week....high 70's and humid the past few days, and tomorrow it won't get out of the 40's...yuck! 

I'm volunteering again this year on the bike course, can't wait.  The 2013 race I've targeted to be my first IM and hope it stays in May only because it would fit my schedule perfectly. 

Guess we'll find out in May.

ive got this race pegged as my first IRONMAN but Im unaware of any date change.  March would make me a bit nervous as it could be 40 degrees and raining during the race!

It would eliminate the whole wetsuit legal/allowed/prohibited thing that's floating around now.  That would be nice.

march in texas is so much better than may for triathlon...  running in 80+ degree weather if you are racing it, is teh suck.

If you think 80 is bad, try running in late August when it's  105+ everyday, that will make you LOVE 80 degree days!

Seeing that the Texas 70.3 is still around the same date next year (April 7th), I don't see them changing the IMTX date.  An IMTX move to March would cause a change to the Texas 70.3 date and that didn't happen.

It's a moot point since the 2013 race date is May 18th but...

There's no way WTC would change IMTX to March and not have to move Galveston.  There are a lot of people that do both races.  That market would be non-existent if IMTX was done first and Texas 70.3 in the weeks following.

I raced in 2011 and loved the course and the community.  I am taking the year off of the distance, but may consider this race again for 2013, so I am really curious about the date and venue.  I assume that 2012 racers who want to race again next year were not able to sign up on Friday like they normally do since the "permitting" situation is still unclear?

You are correct. I know a couple of people who traveled and volunteered so they could sign up the next day. They didn't even receive an e-mil letting them know ahead of time.

From what I understand (not an insider) this is the tentative date. However, since they have not reached an agreement it is not set.

Looks like they are having a town council meeting in the Woodlands tonight and IMTX is one of the topics.  Lots of politcs going on.  Good discussion on ST at this link.
