![]() | ![]() Hi, my name is Stefan and im currently a college student. I used to mountain bike a lot but recently have been fascinated with the thought of doing a triathlon! I am not one of those people that goes around debating if I want to do something or not so this morning I went out and bought my first ever road bike! I did some research and I looked on craigslist for a few days but I just could not bring myself to spend a $1000 + on a new road bike and than I could not bring myself to spend $600 + on a used road bike. So I went to the the local bike shop to see if they had any deals and BAM they had brand new 2010 Fuji Newest 2.0's in my size and they were on sale also since they were 2010 models. I picked the bike up for 575 out the door which to me seems like a good deal! I have seen them on craigslist for 450+ so I figured I get all the warranties and have nothing to worry about since it is new!
What do you guys think? Good deal?
Anyways, I have been running for the past couple of months on an INDOOR track at the campus gym and I would run a mile in around 6 minutes, take a 3 minute break for water and to stretch and then run another one and so forth till i ran 6 miles. Well roughly a month ago my knee started hurting was they told me that I had tendinitis, so I am currently still taking the pills so that it goes away. My knee feels better but I have noticed some pains in it so I am taking it easy! I also use the bike machines in the gym and bike 20 miles a day with them or so.
So any pointers how I should get ready for my first Tri??
(I would consider it a spring tri, since its a 400 meter swim, 13 mile bike ride, and a 5k)
Thanks for the input and I am pumped! |

Thanks for the input and I am pumped! Hi Stefan, welcome to BT! I can't comment on whether you got a good deal on your bike because I'm not familiar with with that type, but if it gets you out the door training, it is a great deal Regarding the knee and other pain, have you been to your local running store to make sure you are in the right kind of running shoes? Being in a shoe that doesn't fit the kind of foot mechanics you have can cause lots of problems, so if you haven't been there I recommend checking it out. Finally, take a look at the training programs on this site. They have many free ones that will be able to get you ready for your first tri. Good luck and have fun! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Welcome. I recently started too. i too bought a Fuji and right now love it. I'm not familiar w/ ur particular model but it will get U riding. Yea like previously said, check ur shoes for running and maybe go see a dr.
Good Luck and enjoy. |

![]() | ![]() I am running in Brooks Gts 11, and those are the shoes that i was fitted for. They are very comfortable and I love running in them. I have tried a lot of different shoes and it was not a good feeling. As of right now I feel like the tendinitis is gone, I ran 2 miles today and biked without a problem (besides feeling somewhat beat haha).
I took my bike to the local bike shop to get a few things changed up and now i am loving it, I have put over 50 miles on it so far! |
