Let's say you lose your employer provided insurance for you and your family. Would you try to buy a new policy or just pay the tax until you "need" the insurance later? The penalty is 2.5% of your income.

I made the decision last year so it really has nothing to do with ACA. I couldn't justify 10K a year for a decent health ins plan so we pay as we go. Even the the catastrophic plans were 7k a year.

I would much rather have my safety net that I am responsible for available for when I need it than not. On top of that my wife and I are looking to start a family so would much rather have insurance to cover prenatel/birth related stuff than have to pay out of pocket etc.

I'd rather have health insurance than none.  When I worked for an employer who did not provide insurance in my 20s I still bought health insurance on the open market.  Never know when there might be a rock in water when cliff jumping or parachute might not open right, or accidentally run off the side of a mountain.

Or get hit by a car on your bike.........

To help you determine the price of health care, here is a web page provided by the US HHS to estimate your insurance costs.  After you answer the questions about your situation, it gives you all the options in your state for coverage.  There are are range of deductibles and covered expenses so you can opt for lower premium and higher out of pocket etc.

http://finder.healthcare.gov/

Look under the Find Insurance Options tab.

for those of you who opted to pay the penalty rather than have insurance.

would you mind if we repealed that Reagan law that stated that we need to care for you whether or not you choose to pay for the services rendered?

When Newt Gingrich was stumping for what was then Romneycare, in 2009, pushing the GOP Mandate based solution over the single payer one.  He added that those of you who are libertarians, instead of being forced to buy insurance, you could just post a bond.  seems fair.

Not possible, BO has stated many many times this will not happen, that I will NOT lose my plan, therefore I can not make a choice.

But once you develop the condition the plan is going to be higher than what it would have been w/o the condition.  Is there a cap on the max the policy can be?  If so what is the max?

My poll is in response to everyone who says people will just drop their plans and pay the tax because it's cheaper until they get sick and actually need a plan. I don't think most people would consider that a good option, especially now in light of the other thread mentioning an enrollment period.

You sure do like tying this whole Government Healthcare thing back to the Repubs.
