Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been listening to podcasts while running, and I'm looking for recommendations. So far I've really enjoyed Talk Ultra, NPR All Songs Considered, Sound Opinions, and Ultrarunner Podcast. Topics I'd like to hear more about include: music, running, mountaineering, professional cycling, and book reviews. Any recommendations? |

I didn't see "Trail Runner Nation" on your list. I think the hosts used to be part of URP but broke away. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IM Talk (2 former pros....real talk, interviews with pros, tips and tricks for AG'ers) - only drawback is they are from New Zealand and it can be a little hard to understand them at times. Endurance Planet - decent. Something to listen too. The Age Grouper - haven't downloaded them in a while, but can be amusing |

The first 33 or so episodes of 3NJ are not available at the moment. Something to do with bandwidth. I would recommend listening to them in order as some of the jokes mentioned are brought up later and the show does have some linear points. I started listening at #34 and caught on quick enough.
Have you ever listened to a book? I was thinking about giving it a try but I am not sure if I could focus properly on both running and reading/listening. I think I would be constantly rewinding the book. I think I have the attention span of gnat. |

I've listened to audiobooks on runs, and they can be great, but I need to be fully invested in the book from the start, or else I won't finish just to finish. I'm rather a skimmer as a reader and I get bogged down by how slowly audiobooks are read and how much time it takes to finish one. Podcasts are great for me because I only need to have 30-60 minutes of attention for most of them. I, too, have a gnatty attention span |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I use Stitcher on my phone. My current listing on there of podcasts are: Car Talk The Film Talk The Dinner Party How to do Everything This American Life Freakonomics NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour Radiolab If you haven't listened to Radiolab, I would highly recommend it. You can download all the episodes, which gives you many, many hours of listening, and you will learn all kinds of cool and interesting things along the way. They use a lot of effects with the recordings to make it even more interesting than just disembodied voices talking. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For runs I like Tiesto's Club Life. Its techno so it may not be your thing, but I find the music always keeps me going, even when my body starts screaming to stop. |

Its techno so it may not be your thing, but I find the music always keeps me going, even when my body starts screaming to stop. Although I don't listen to much electronic dance music, there are definitely sleepy morning runs where I'd love to have some pumping through my ears. Also, the commercial free DJ set reminded me of another of my favorite podcasts, KEXP, out of Seattle, especially what John Richards plays. gearboy -- thanks for all those recommendations! I'm going to start with Radiolab, sounds great. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() RadioLab is very, very good. If you have any interest in finance - Planet Money (started as an "article" on This American Life and was so well received, they got their own show) describes fairly complex financial issues of the day for the layperson. They had one of the best explanations of the mortgage debacle (called "the giant pool of money") I have ever heard. "The Vinyl Cafe" which is a combination of storytelling and music. Stuart McLean (the host) is one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure to listen to/read. It also has laugh out loud moments that are hard to explain to your neighbors at 5:30am as you are running past their house. |

I also recommended the other 2 above. The Infinite Monkey Cage is a BBC produce science/comedy show. Educational and funny (if you like British humor) |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, I listened to a few episodes of Radiolab and I have to agree it is very good. But for me, I don't think I could use it on a run as I think I would tune out too much. So instead I have been listening to while I drive (new long commute). Not that tuning out while driving is any better but I guess I really want to pay attention to how my feet are reacting with the ground and not so much my tires are to the road. There...I justified tuning out while driving. Absolved. |
