You can have 100% buy in from all parties, have the scope fully detailed in writing, and everyone fully agree on what's going to happen when you start the project....

...but one week before the deadline fingers start pointing.

Sorry, it's just been one of those days. Just a rant to the world...

The moral is: get it in writing, save emails, document phone calls with a follow up email.  And even when you do this prepare to still be falsely blamed.

Sad you have to do this but it's the only way to prove you've held up your end of the deal.

(deep breath... ok I feel a bit better)

I feel your rant....been there.

Every project i work on even the most innocent phone conversation gets a follow up email (as per our conversation)....All emails are saved by client, location, and specific person with who the conversation took place.

Even with proof you can get blamed, thats when they come up with the "it seems like the email that i sent you on this date never got to you".....but the customer is always rigth

It's a shame how much time, energy and money we have to put into CYA in today's bureaucratic, political, corporate world.  Cry

I swear I used to say this at least once a week:

Always. Create. A. Paper. Trail.

It's rule #1 in client service.

Yes, it is one of those days.  I am dealing with the President and V.P. of our facility and have the same problems when following their directions.  Put it all in writing and I am still wrong.  :-)

Cuetoy - 2012-08-22 4:01 PM.....but the customer is always rigth

Ah, but I don't subscribe to that theory.  In fact the customer is, a lot of the time, wrong.  It just depends how much you want them as a customer vs how much them being "right" will cost you.

Neither do i....Most of the time the customer is wrong, at least in my field, but unfortunately they are normally very big projects which by default makes the customer always rigth...If you catch my drift.

Be thankful you're not here in China.  You can have it in writing and it still doesn't matter.  Now, if you can somehow talk someone into putting their "chop" on a document, you might have a fighting chance.... but good luck with that.
