Wow, pretty impressive performance...Treasury Sec goes 2:33 in the Nation's Triathlon...

Geithner Holds His Own on Triathlon Front

By MICHAEL J. DE LA MERCED
The Nation’s TriathlonParticipants in the 2011 Nation’s Triathlon
to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Paul D. Ryan may not have finished
a marathon
quite as fast as he initially recounted. But Timothy F. Geithner can
point to a respectable time for his latest triathlon.

Mr. Geithner, the Treasury secretary, participated in the 7th annual Nation’s Triathlon to Benefit the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Sunday, swimming, biking and running his way
through the nation’s capital. The race involved a 1.5-kilometer swim in the
Potomac River, a 40-kilometer bike ride through the city and a 10-kilometer
run.

And Mr. Geithner, 51, can boast of a pretty good finish to his race,
completing the course in 2:33:07. He placed ninth in his division, men aged 50
to 54, according to the race’s Web site. Individually, he completed the swim in 29:10, the bike
ride in 1:13:52 and the run in 45:51.

A Treasury spokesman confirmed that Mr. Geithner competed in the race.

That's pretty impressive. Puts him fairly high up in the pols-that-tri ranking. Anybody know of others in the mix.

Oh, and from looking at the results, it's all the more impressive, as it seems that the swim times were unusually slow, probably due to heavy water flows in the Potomac after the big storm Saturday night. I see that people who would normally destroy me in the swim were recording MOP-like splits.

Yeah, the swim was crazy slow. I am usually very strong on the swim, and I knew my swim split would be slow yesterday (got kicked hard in the face and had to regroup), but I was really shocked to see I swam a 32:00. Yikes.

One of the Senators from here in Massachusetts, Scott Brown, is a big time tri guy and has been for ages. He's done close to 200 races, and just this summer blew by me on the run of the Cohasset sprint like I was standing still. He was top 5 in AG. last year he podiumed in his AG.

One wonders with the economy being what it is how the Treasury Secretary of the United States has enough time to train for a performance of that level. Or maybe one answers the other...

Probably the same way Obama has managed to get in so many rounds of golf.

I say let all of the politico train MORE. It keeps them out of their offices where they screw things up(especially "Tax-cheat Tim").

Do you mean YOUR economy that is helping to drag the rest of the world's economies down, or ours here in the US that would be doing a lot better if we didn't have to worry about Europe falling off a cliff every 3 months.
