So, Oneword, you're not so keen to start the smack off this week - feeling a little nervous, perhaps...

I just wanted to say a big, huge thanks to you and Brian and the go-go boots dancer for all the niggling smack over the last few weeks.

Thanks to you three, I smashed my PB on the bike leg at the weekend. And yes, I've not got a bit more to ride before I complete my goal. But I think the satisfaction of winning will now be twice as sweet.

[seriousness] ... and that is what this Challenge is really all about: time in the saddle + challenge = achieveing personal best.

Gill:

Averaging >17.45 mph over 25 miles is a significant accomplishment.  Congratulations.

Scott (aka fellow pool hater):

Good job on the bike ... was it on the way to the pool?[/seriousness]

As for winning, we'll see how it shakes out later this afternoon when both sides post their final weeks spreadsheet.

Will you be saying thanks when you hop the plane to my side of the pond to rub my hams, quads and glutes when y'all *lose*?

Well, you know, I'd love to, but I'm sure we can find someone who's much more eager to take up that job

Besides, that's far too presumptive - your smug smack is going to bite you in the ar$e very very soon. It's been super motivating for a whole stack of goddesses and we are counting the days to victory.

Hee hee. Win or lose, I've gone from not being able to bike ten miles to biking 400 miles in a month. Good for you on the bike leg! It was all in good fun! May the best go-go dancer, back up singer with a cool band not a frontliner, not no-winning Peyton Manning, non goat smell person win!

You know most people won't even admit to having heard that song, let alone knowing it well enough to make up a new version.

Nice work with the dumdidda's - were you marching round in your boots as you sang that??

Yah. My girl squashing boots. It's the pair I wear to crush slacker GOG members. I like my boots with a high sheen BTW. No spit polish, I want the stuff you get at the store. Interestingly you kno wthat song as well. It's like chubthumping or whatever that song is. We all know it. I'm just cool enough that lame songs like those can't even touch me. So yall can scurry around losing the competition and worrying about which songs that you know will make you ride less.

Huh? I'd never cycled more than 30 miles before this month. I biked 41, 53, 62 and 72 miles this month. I had never biked that far before this month. How's that sandbagging? I'd certainly never biked 400 in a month before.

That wouldn't be mean.  But it would be a better use of your time to look for your thesaurus.  You should go ahead and start looking up synonyms for "beautiful" and "inspiring" and "amazing"... you guys are going to have to keep it interesting for 31 whole days.

OK, first off, you've just contradicted yourself - was it 10 or 30 miles that you'd never ridden before June?? Based on your first claim (of 10 miles), how do you explain your logs in May: 36.5 miles, 30, 12.8, 25, 30, 33, 15.6... you get the picture. Which of these is less than 10??

Don't remember using the word "sandbagging" - guilty conscience perhaps

Wow this really isn't fun anymore.

August 2005. No endurance sports experience except some swim team in high school. I watched my wife run a road race so I decided to do a half marathon. I trained from August to December and ran the Kiawah half marathon. In September, I bought a Trek 1200 and barely road it until I decided to do triathlons this year. I rode my Nordic Track stationary bike during the winter to start getting ready. As of December I had never done a ride LONGER THAN 10 Miles. So in 8 months I've gone from barely being able to ride to ridng 70+ miles at one time. I never rode 400 miles in a month, so I'm proud of that. I've lost 25 pounds, did my first three triathlons in in March, May and June. So there! What is this, the friggin Inquisition?

My response is to the ladies saying the men our sandbagging. A GOG member's word, not mine. and it ain't defensive if someone is attacking you, smiley faces not withstanding.

Hello! There it is. What do you know.

I'm just going to stop my smack talk as this has deteriorated to mean spiritedness. I wouldn't want to diminish the accomplishements of TBI or GOG members. Good luck with the rest of the challenge. I'm taking my baseball and going home.

Well geez, you people call this smack. What's next, you gonna stomp your foot and walk away. C'mon nut up peeps and get some good smack going. We've only got a couple of days remaining.
Gilfev, what's with snoopin' on a bros logs. And yours with all that "biked 50 kms" stuff. What, you think your in Europe or something. And how hard could it be riding in England, I mean they got no rednecks in pickup trucks or drunken golfers in giant SUV's. Well maybe a few drunken golfers.
Oh and the sandbaggin' thing. Yeah well I sandbagged myself with a crash and still met my goal. So I haven't ran or swam in a month...I'll catch up.
Carry on.

Hey, Bluejack, apologies. I wasn't intending to be mean-spirited and certainly not to belittle your achievements. Ironically, I only went into your logs because I was going to post a "well done" inspire. Away from the smack-talk, I think it's great that both sides recognise individual achievements and the guys have been more than generous on that front.

I'm taking my baseball and going home.

Now I see how the so-called "World Series" started...

gullahcracker, right back at you: I wiped out a week with a throat virus and did exactly the same to catch up. We have chavs instead of rednecks, but they drive just as bad...

Bluejack,

Your original post made it sound as though you went from not being able to cycle 10 miles to cyling 400 miles in ONE month.

I'm sure you did not intend it that way, but that's how it read to me.

Like gillyfev, I checked your logs as well, and realized that you must have meant that over the space of a year (or whatever) you went from not being able to cycle 10 miles to cycling 400.  Yeah, definitely a major accomplishment, but not the same as how I first read your statement.

I don't believe there was/is any meanspiritedness in any of this - more that your original post was not clear.

As for sandbagging, GOG has 2 people (and only 1 by Sunday) who are finished with their goal.  TBI has 10.  And TBI has more than one who surpassed their goal by over 50 miles on Sunday, with 5 days left to go.  What would you call it?

For the record though, if you thought I was directing my comment about sandbagging towards you specifically, I was not.

Besides, since TBI has more people who are finished than we do - ya gotta say something!

ARGH!

Who knows. The only people I know in RL are runnergirl and myself. We aren't sandbagging. I sure hope the TBI members are just well motivated and underestimated themselves some. Clearly I could have done 500 miles, but 400 was 100 more than I had done in a month. I can't speak for the other fellahs. Sorry if my posts were not clear.
