Total Time = 2h 16m 20s
Overall Rank = 498/650
Age Group = Female 50-54
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Actually managed to sleep a bit last night, on and off. Woke up at 430, had a cup of coffee and a banana. Headed to race site by 545, picked up my chip and had my numbers written (they also wrote your age on your calf, that was attractive!)
Event warmup:

Power Bar and Gatorade before swim, ENergy Gel and Gatorade before bike, energy gel and Gatorade before run
Swim
  • 16m 20s
  • 800 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

How different from training swims! SO many bodies, all fighting for the same positions. I have to learn to hold my pace, and not constantly get out of the way for everyone, it really slows you down. I found some people extremely rude, but then again, maybe its part of the swim I have to learn. I can't tell you how many time I got kicked and punched.
What would you do differently?:

Either learn to hold my own and "fight" back, or let everyone go ahead and just enjoy the swim without all the arms and legs
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

Cap, goggles and top of wetsuit off while running up LONG hill to transition area, sat down while putting on running shirt, soks and shoes and drinking Gatorade and eating the gelpack. Stood up to pull on running shorts.
What would you do differently?:

Try to be a bit faster
Bike
  • 57m 30s
  • 17 miles
  • 17.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Need to work on corners, felt pretty good on the hills (just one major one)
What would you do differently?:

Take advantage of the flat roads to gain mileage
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Collision with bike in front of me coming into transition area
What would you do differently?:

Not collide with bike in front of me!
Run
  • 55m 45s
  • 5 miles
  • 11m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

I still hate to run. Walked some of it. Need to just keep on moving
What would you do differently?:

Not walk at all
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade, slow walk, RELAX

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run

Event comments:

First one, I did it!

Great race Barbara!  I agree with your comments on the swim portion.  I felt I was getting kicked and punched too.  Your swim time was still awesome.
