Subject: Shimano 105 Triple Crankset vs. FSA SK-L Triple (Compatibility & preference Question)

I purchased a Shimano 105 Black Triple Groupset (9 piece) for my Giant Defy Road Bike.  It now has the Sora Groupset on it.  A year ago I replaced the Crankset with a FSA Carbon SK-L Triple 172.5.  The New Shimano Groupset that I purchased includes the 5700 Series Hallowtech II Triple Crank.

Question 1:  Does anyone know if the FSA Carbon SKL-Triple is compatible with the Shimano 105 Series (I suspect it is since it works with the Sora, but that is purely a guess)?

Question 2:  If it is compatible would you stay with the FSA Carbon SK-L Triple or go with the Shimano 105 Hallowtech II Triple Crank?

Thanks for any insight tothese question.  Much appreciated.

should work fine.

Personally I don't think anyone builds a better crank than shimano, but both should work pretty well.

It should be compatible. You may need to swap out the bottom bracket, but they're somewhat inexpensive.

If I were choosing, I'd stay with the FSA. Unless it has significant wear to the chainrings, then swap for new.

You can use the FSA with the Shimano groupset, but you would need to use the FSA bottom bracket. If I had the choice, I would remove the FSA crank and bottom bracket, install the Shimano crank and bottom bracket. Shimano makes some very good cranks and although nothing wrong with the FSA, they never shift as crisp as the Shimano ones.
