from the north (Timmins) but on our trips 'Down South' we usually hit up the MEC in Burlington, and I was looking at the bikes... anyone have one or know anything about them?

I am going to be buying my first road bike once I reach my weightloss goal this year, and I was considering a MEC bike, to support a good Canadian company..

Any feedback or suggestions welcome!

Mec bikes (house brand - not Ghost) are apparently "designed in Canada" but are assembled overseas.  Which is not to say they're bad bikes, just that you're not necessarily "supporting a good Canadian company" any more than you would be by buying a Raleigh.

I dont think the MEC bikes are "bad" but I think you can do better for the price. If you want Canadian you have to get Cervelo!

There are a hundred bike shops to look at if your going as far as Burlington.  Shop around.  MEC has some great quality stuff, but quite a bit is overpriced.  You can get better for less $$$.

Endurosport in Toronto was fantastic to deal with when I was getting my bike. I would highly recommend them, I was buying the cheapest bike in the shop a cervello p1, but they took an extraordinary amount of time fitting me and making sure I was happy and comfortable. They had built up a 51 and a 54 for me to try as I was a bit between sizes. A good fit made a big difference in my comfort and speed.

Thanks for the recommend!

My 'far' better half has told me she will buy me a new bike if I can reach my weight loss goal to go under 200 lbs...hoping to do this right around May/June....just in time to get out on the road again!

I will try to check out that shop next time I am down in the big city.

If you're going to be in Burlington - my suggestion would be to head over to Newold Cycle just past IKEA, I got a great price on my Cervelo P2 there.

Hello - want to keep it Canadian - don't forget Norco

I have been using a Norco CRR2 - full carbon - SRAM / Mavic and this thing is amazing

Try Cycle Path (Young / Eglinton area) just passed Sudan (south of Eglinton) and speak to Mike or TOM - Mike is a friend of mine and he will help you - service is amazing (too far for you though); tell them Jean (french) sent you

They have new lines this year Tactic and Valance - SRAM / 105; but you can go with Ultegra / Dura Ace for options (they will build it for you); Norco also distribute Ridley for more $ (Noah model is decent)

Cervelo deals can be had at Wheels in Oakville East of Bronte on Lakeshore

I have raced for many years and always liked the Canadian products - so Norco, Cervelo, Argon, etc.; I use an Argon 18 for Triathlon

Got to keep it Canadian Eh!

For a little humour - check this one out
