Subject: Things that were/are awkward for you to tell your spouse

Reading a thread in TT about working out with your spouse when maybe you'd rather be by yourself. Got me thinking about other things that are kind of hard to communicate to your spouse.

Recently I felt the need to tell my husband that there might be a reason the golf shirts he is buying online have the price reduced. I had to really think about a way to word this so I said if he would ever like a 2nd opinion before he placed an order that I would be very happy to look at the link and I blamed it on the fact that he is color blind so the colors might not look true on the computer.

He says "Are you trying to tell me my shirts are ugly or something. Do you want to buy ALL of my clothes?". Then he explained that they are golf shirts and that is what people wear playing golf. I said fine - and you can tell me my tri clothes are ugly and look ridiculous any day of the week but I don't wear them to dinner.

So now we have an agreement. He can buy all the ugly shirts he wants but keep them on the golf course .

Just some weekend nonsense.....

I'm pretty direct about everything with everyone.  I like when people are direct with me as well.  I don't find too many occasions when I feel awkward telling my spouse anything.  But recently I had to tell my spouse that I know she is lying to me.  That was awkward.

Yikes, that is a lot harder than your golf shirts are ugly.

Hope everything worked out for you!

I've found that there are quite a few subjects that are taboo.  In fact, I usually discover one or two new ones every day.

Not to make light of the subject as there are many times that might prove to be hard to talk to your partner.........but I find myself frequently telling my husband he does not need to share as much........he is a guy..........you can imagine.  Wink

LMAO

Spouse or otherwise, I'm in the unfortunate category where I pretty much don't find it awkward to tell anybody anything anytime--makes it really awkward for the other person, sometimes. I usually know this happened if I'm in a group, there's a very long silence and when I actually notice it, half the people have their mouths open and the other half are trying very hard not to laugh.

Oops? Oh well.

Trigal, if that's one of the worst of your worries, you've got it made.     I think silly arguments are a natural part of a healthy relationship...you're probably already looking back at this and laughing.  If my wife told me my choice in shirts was bad, I'd laugh...(unless of course it was regarding my GNR shirt collection, to which I would loudly reply in classic Axl-like fashion with righteous anger from the pit of my soul!)

My wife has stopped asking my opinion on her fashion decisions.  At some point, she may have commented on mine, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't listening.

Back in 1999, my then partner went and got a new haircut that she thought was just the greatest....you can imagine the reaction when the first thing out of my mouth was 'Oh god, You look like my mother.'

I'm not one of those subtle, beat around the bush types.

Sometimes my husband will ask me if what he's wearing looks okay. My code for not really is to say it's probably okay since you're an engineer. I still find some medical conversations akward. How do you tell your husband a hair follicle on your bum is infected and they had to cut it out and that's why you're not riding your bike. I think he wishes I lied about that one.

I'm sure there WILL be something that is awkward to tell him...but I can't really think of anything that has been. Unfortunately and fortunately, I don't really have a problem telling him much of anything. His interpretation of my tone on the other hand...that's a different story.

I've learned not to tell him about missed facial hairs in the car though. He really doesn't like that. But the lighting in a car doesn't provide much room to hide and I'm a bit shorter than him...so...

1st most awkward thing I told her was "I am not happy."

2nd was "Yes I will give you a divorce."

My wife has high standards for herself, so any time I say, "Wouldn't it be cool if.. (anything that sounds like I want more/less/better than status quo)..."

She takes it really hard instead of just allowing it to be an open dialogue.

(And no, it is not just because I am a jerk... which I am... I put a lot of effort into delivery on this stuff.)
