The horse forums are up in arms about how they handled the outbreak and did not do a full quarantine and now there are 5 horses throughout the state that have it.  Hundreds more are being transported all over the country that may develop it and bring it home with them.

I hope they get it under control as it is a very scary disease.

I saw this...as I have friends in Ocala and Wellington, with horses that cost upwards of $100K.  Yeah, pretty scary.

the first time i went to HITS with my wife a long time ago i couldn't believe how many horses were in that one area.  i used to joke that the dollar value of just horses and tack in that one location was higher than most small cities.  we've got lots of friends at private farms throughout Ocala and i'm sooooo glad my wife didn't go down there with our horses for the winter these last two years.

keeping my fingers crossed it stays fairly contained.
