Training and Racing with a Power Meter
This is a great resource for anyone who is planning on pursuing road racing; for triathletes there are some great sections but also several that aren't as applicable.
The Triathlete's Guide to Training with Power
This, in conjunction with Dr. Skiba's first book are, IMO, the best two resources available to triathletes who want to learn about training. Well written, concise and well referenced for anyone looking for more info. This book is written from the perspective of an athlete who is using RaceDay to analyze their training files but, although some of the metrics have different names, it works just as well for WKO+ or GoldenCheetah.
If you are going down the power route, the most important thing will be figuring out what software program you want to use to analyze your files; basically you have three good choices in RaceDay (very good for triathletes ), WKO+ (very good for cyclists, okay for triathletes ) and GoldenCheetah (free ). IMO there is no reason to pay for RaceDay or WKO+ as GoldenCheetah will do everything that you will need in terms of power analysis.
Also, for a solid (and free although somewhat dated ) intro, try this:
