IRS To Tea Party: Sorry We Targeted You And Your Tax Status

Why should they get tax exempt status? Or any group/organization with a political driven agenda (conservative or liberal)?

I understand and support tax exempt status for charities and organizations such as the red cross, food kitchens, etc. that provide a service for the community. But political-driven organizations?

Maybe I am missing something. BTW, I also do not understand the tax exempt status of professional spots leagues (and I am a big sports fan).

Please enlighten me.

Well, my post was more of a rant against tax-exempt laws and such.

However, I do believe that the Tea Party is mainly a political organization, and as such would fall in the category of non-exempt organizations according to the line you provided. But frankly, so would many other organizations on both ends of the spectrum. So, as much as I am not a fan of the Tea Party, this shows that they had a good reason to complain.

I don't have enough information to know what is really going on...

On its face, I don't see the issue with greater scrutiny.

Here is what we know...

1 - Tea party affiliation is primary political.

2 - Their agenda is to not have to pay taxes.

I do however, work for one non-profit while being on the board for another.

The biggest things that the IRS is worried about?

1 - Your true mission is as stated and not a front for something else that would not qualify for nonprofit status.

2 - You are not trying to use the non-profit as a way to illegally avoid paying taxes.

You know, it takes two to tango. I find it odd you rail so much about a behavior you seem to enjoy engaging in. Can we please get back to the topic.

It is in fact a liberal administration. But there is no need to tie the administration, to something it seems was done from individuals. Ultimately, The President is the leader of the country, but it does not make him responsible. And trying to say he directed it is an even bigger stretch.

Stick with Bengazi. that one is big enough.

What information do you have that this was directed by the "Administration"? Do you realize the current head was a Bush appointee?

These days, I do not have a problem with any organization that fights to protect rights. I may not agree with the current baby raper or mass murderer they are trying to protect, but I applaud the fight. Somebody has to do it.

Sir, I may do many things, but "RAIL" is sadly not one of them..

Sorry to disappoint but I'm not right winged. I just remember the TEA (acronym, all caps) party making all kinds of noise about being targeted by the IRS and all the left leaning to screamingly left talking about how they were being paranoid and making things up. I found this admission by the IRS amusing as hell. Side note, it's interesting how close together IRS and IRA are on the keyboard

I do try to stick to the subject of them. Took mom to her eye surgery appointment and am taking her to the next one. Told her it was her Mother's Day and B-Day presents all wrapped up in one

I know we've brought up parallels with Obama and Nixon (Watergate) in the Benghazi thread, but Joe Klein mentions Obama being on same page as Nixon with this as well.  I had forgotten all about Nixon using the IRS to bully political opponents.

Honestly, that's just more spin too. How about we just compare it to Bengazi. Comparing it to Watergate does not get Obama impeached.. which obviously is the Holy Grail at this point for some. Should we bring up the Nazi's too to make a point?
