I had a similar question about Lake Midnapore -- Chinook tri is in two weeks.  Any news?

Nope, I ended up not going in. I am doing the Chinook Sprint and a little scared of the water temp. But it can be as cold a Two Jackin Banff in Sept.

I have been in our lake (Sundance) twice in the past two weeks. It was pretty chilly but nothing that I thought was unbareable. Went for a swim Friday morning and it felt better than the weekend before. Can't tell you the actual temperature as they don't take readings. I am also doing the new Chinook sprint in 2 weeks but with Sikome being so shallow am not worried at all about the temperature of that water.

Hope this is vague enough for everyone.

Ok enough worrying about the temp in Sikome ( You are most likely correct about it being ok) I am now stressing about that hill we have to do 4 times.

I am keen to swim Sikome as it is so shallow. You will be able to stand up at any point, although I don't know if that breaks any rules? They have started filling the lake with nice clean city water over the past week. Ah yes the hill I am also shaking my head at that one. It isn't too bad as long as you hit it right. It is a bit long and slow. This is my training grounds so I have been attacking this same hill for years but not 4 times in a row. I guess atleast the good part about going up is that you must come down. If it helps at all the run will be as flat as a pancake.

It will be an interesting event especially being the first time. All my friends in the hood say they will cheer for me from their kitchens while drinking their morning coffee..........damn them.

I've signed up for OWS practice on Saturday at Lake Midnapore.  Guess I'll get a chance to test out the cold!

Side note -- I hadn't realized (until all of you started talking about Sikome) that the Saturday events (Half & Oly) and Sunday events (Sprint) were in different lakes...

Sikome max depth is 7 feet -- Midnapore max depth is 20 feet -- guess that means Midnapore will be 3x colder Laughing

I have a hill on my route to work and home which is close. But yah, not four times. I might head out there Monday and give a go just to prepare. I hate the unknown.

Have great race.

Chinook website posted that Lake Midnapore is 17C (62.5F) as of yesterday.   Pretty good for early June I'd say.

I have to believe that Sikome is warmer still.

I did OWS practice in Midnapore this afternoon.   Water was chilly for sure, but warmer than I had feared and a non-issue with the wetsuit.

I wore my neoprene cap -- at one point I convinced myself the water was OK so I swam back to shore and took it off -- swam without it for 1 minute, then quickly made a beeline back to shore and put it back on  Smile

I suspect a regular swim cap would have been enough -- however, the ever-thinning layer of natural protection on my head was clearly insufficient...

Good to know. Neoprene cap it is, I hate a frozen forehead. But I so suspect that Sikome will be a little warmer.

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
