Comments: For the first TT it was fine. Goal was to break an hour, which I did. Ran an 11/23 but the 14 tooth cog skipped, forcing me to go to the 15, which cost me a few seconds. Happened 6 to 8 times throughout. Derailleur most likely is tweaked slightly...never happened before with the SRAM. Thought I flatted at mile 10 or so. Stopped pedaling for a few seconds to look down for a visual. Started back up again, but kept hearing something coming from the rear wheel for a few hundred yards. Perhaps it was slight grooves in the road or something. Never figured it out but it took 30 seconds or so to get back into it mentally. Inexperience. I passed 4 racers (start times every 60 seconds) and didn't get passed by anyone. Should have started the finishing effort earlier by a couple hundred yards for sure. It was slightly uphill leading into the final finish and I misjudged what was left in the tank. What would you do differently?: Warmup longer and with a purpose. Sat in start line for 15 minutes, which was too long. Even though I rode through all the gears beforehand, it was annoying to have the issue on the 14. Post race
Warm down: None. Coasted right to my car and was still fairly fresh. Other than dripping sweat from the heat on the road, I knew I didn't give a high enough effort. Within a few minutes I was recovered. My 2 minute recovery HR was already 88. What limited your ability to perform faster: 14 tooth cog skipped. Not enough effort. Inexperience from the mental side to push past my normal multisport endurance race pace. Event comments: Results took quite awhile. I raced as a Cat5 because it was my first road race. Since I had the best time, I'll move to Cat4 or 3 now. The pink QR crushed everyone in Masters as a Cat3, Only one young fella had a better time overall on the day. I'm nowhere close to being competitive in TT. The difference between 25 mph and 28 mph is off the chart. Going in I had a 270 FTP. Given how I felt afterwards and had a 1.11 IF, I assume my new FTP should be closer to 280-282. That converts to only 3.6 w/kg. Hunter Allen defines that as barely into the Good Cat3 rider classification. Winning AG du's and tri's is easier! Last updated: 2013-07-15 12:00 AM
