Opps, hit enter instead of tab...I am sure someone asked this before but I was wondering if wetsuits are provided at an ironman as part of the entry fee, or if you have to rent them. If you have to rent them, is it better in the long run to just buy a used one. I live in SC so from late May through Sept. the water temps are high enough that no wetsuits are permitted. Also, I am a strong swimmer and even in my early year tris when others wore wetsuits and I did not, I was in the top 20% for the swim. I don't think I really want to spend all the money on the wetsuit if I don't need to and I could put that money towards other areas that well reap a better benifit.

The Entry Fee only gets you to the starting line.  They don't provide any equipment.  If you chose to have a wetsuit, it's on your own.  Just like a bike.  So renting, borrowing, buying are your options.

Well, for me... I know that when I am training for my Ironman... I will buy a wetsuit for it.

I live in Texas... but the lakes aren't really HOT (well, for me) until June ish. So, if I want to train in March-May I will need a wesuit.

For a 2.4 mile swim, I want to make sure I am familiar with and comfortable in my wetsuit. Sure, for a sprint, I would borrow/rent a wetsuit... but for an Ironman, I want to have trained in my wetsuit beforehand.

Best of luck! I hope you find what works for you!

To the OP, I would strongly suggest you consider this advice.
