I'm in, Munice will be a test prior to IMChatt. Which hotels are folks planning to stay?

I will be there, hopefully! Should be but I am not having a good year; last year was strenuous and I overtrained. I'm currently over weight and not even training yet; mentally I clearly am not where I need to be. Lol, you all don't want to be reading all this negativity but I thought it might help me focus by participating in the thread.

Muncie has many hotels to choose from, they do fill up quick though, if those a full try some of the hotel / inns in New Castle, its closer than Anderson and just 20 minutes from the race sight,.... I live on this race course (between bike and run course) so I would be glad to give any pointers, advise and or updates, one change I do know of, the bike course has changed from last year, it will be fast and it will be fun, 90% highway, good luck, Dave

Are there any cabins to stay in at the reservoir? Also, has this race ever sold out? I am planning on doing it, but have not registered yet. Thanks.

It has not sold out since IM took over the race, due the increase in available entry slots, as far as cabins, the city just set up some small cabins that I can look at give you some specs, from what I hear they are basically like a wood shed, one room no kitchen or bathroom.... I will check them out this weekend on one of my runs and get back to you on that....

Thanks for the info. I have a hotel reserved in Anderson right now, I think I may just stick with that and deal with the somewhat longish drive. If anyone else has any recommendations, I'd love to hear it, this will be my first time in the area.

How many years has Muncie been a wetsuit legal swim?

"New" bike course is very flat and fast, on state highways with awesome road conditions.

We have been wetsuit legal 1/3 years since its been an IRONMAN event (Don't quote me on that, after so many different events things get a little fuzzy). Before that when we used 78 as the cutoff, it was 50/50 for 30 years. Its normally right around 78, but we've seen 75, and also seen 83!

This will be the 35th annual event in Muncie, making it the oldest half in the world. Should be another great race with the best volunteers in the country.

Its not always legal, USAT Temp rules do apply, Prairie Creek is a shallow Reservoir so the temp can fluctuate rapidly, I have done Ironman Muncie / Endurathon when the water Temps have been as high as 88 and done it with low of 72, last year we had a couple weeks of cooler temp nights that dropped the temp to 76 on race day so bring a suit but don't expect to get to use it....

By the way I do feel that Brian should get some positive feed back with the bike course, I was pretty negative about last years course and posted those frustrations here on BT and I have to say Brian responded, so I feel it only to be fair and say,THANKS for:

Listening to the Athletes
Taking the Time to Respond
Changing the Course

Thank You Brian...

This will be my third time doing Muncie, first time- no wetsuits, second -wetsuit legal. Either way its a great swim as the reservoir is calm.

Nice to see the bike course changed, last year I wondered if I should have ridden a full suspension bike with the back roads they sent us to.

Last year wasn't that bad... Athletes have been spoiled in Muncie for years with such amazing roads on US35 and US36. This year you all will get great road surfaces again.

What has been the history at Muncie as far as being wetsuit legal or not? Is there a site that posts the reservoir water temp?

Not sure about the distant past, but 2012 the water temp I believe was 88-89 deg. Definitely not refreshing! Last year it was (barely) wetsuit legal.

I will be there for the third time. Glad to hear about the bike course. Thanks for letting us know. I will also be camping at the resovior. I did that last year and it was great. I walked around after the race and talked with others, It was awesome. The first year we stayed in Muncie, It was ok but being right by the start was incredible. Good luck to everyone. This will be my first tri after Im louisville and a four month layup after the IM.

Try Anderson. It's not much farther from the reservoir than Muncie. At this point there's not a lot left though.
