This is my first 70.3 after doing 4 Sprint length races. I was wondering about the grade and length of the three hills mentioned in posts from other years.
The first climb (around mile 28 ) is about a half mile long, and just under 300 feet of climbing.
(around 12% grade per Strava )
The second climb (around mile 35 ) is a little longer (.6 miles ) and less climbing (~220 feet ), but this comes after 4 miles of uphill (~480 feet of climbing ).
(around 6% grade per Strava )
The last hill (around mile 39 ) is about .7 miles long and around 240 feet of climbing.
(around 6% grade per Strava )
The key is to not go crazy on the first part of the ride when you usually have a tailwind and it is pretty flat. The second half of the race has the climbs, and then you usually have a headwind coming back to transition.
Hope that helps.
