Pre-race routine:

Drank Coffee and a Honey Stinger Protein Bar.
It was pouring. Wanted to crawl back in bed. For first time running this Race I stayed in town the night before, so no early AM 2 HR drive
Event warmup:

A cup of coffee to stay warm
Run
  • 2h 00m 17s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

26/159 Women overall
It was Misting at the beginning of the race. and cleared up for a good part of it. The last 3 miles were a miserable downpour.
I ran out pretty easy pace, not wanting to push too hard. I was feeling good, and decided to push a little bit. I really enjoy the gravel portion along the creek, and by the turnaround, decided to push fairly hard on the downhills to make up time. Overall not too bad, although I thought I was moving a little faster. I forgot a watch.
Post race
Warm down:

Clam Chowder while I stood by the massive fireplace. Warm!!
Then a latte.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was happy not to run with a watch, just to run by feel, but If I had known my pace, based on the way I felt, I would have pushed harder.

Event comments:

One of my favorites. this is the first of the 4 years I have run, that it rained so hard.

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
