Have you started training for this race? I've been active, and will start more structured training in 10 days.

So far, very good: 2 HIM + IMTX. I was planning on doing one or 2 Olys before 70.3 Miami, but I ended signing up for Ironman Barcelona (first Ironman in my hometown, I could not miss it!). Ironman Barcelona is 3 weeks before 70.3 Miami, so I will see how I feel. If I am not recovered, I may not do it, or just go very very easy.

How's your season going??

Good luck! You will love this race. You have plenty of time to train for it, don't worry!

Nice, it sounds like Ironman Barcelona will be a lot of fun. I hope you have enough time to recover after IM Barcelona and still do Miami.

My season is actually starting now, I've been busy with "life" - grad school and two small kids, and was just trying to stay active with no real structure. I'm just starting a training plan for this race - my second HIM - but, I'm happy to finally start being more consistent with training.

Anyone done this race before and know the temperatures. I want to be sure to train for the temperature of the run. I assume the water temp is to warm for wetsuit.

The water is too warm for wetsuits, this race was wetsuit legal only once, due to a tropical storm that passed close to Miami, and brought some colder water with it a few days before the race; so, I wouldn't count on being able to use a wetsuit.

No wetsuit for sure. This will be my first time doing this race, but last year I raced another HIM a couple of weeks after Miami 70.3 and the weather gets hot during the run (mid 80s). Not brutal for people that are used to the heat and humidity and, especially, that lived in Miami during the summer (right now is incredibly hot and humid), but some northerners complain about Miami weather for racing triathlon.

Late October, you should expect to start the swim in the mid 70s, bike starting in the high 70s and ending your bike segment in the mid 80s. Your run should be also in the mid 80s. Sometimes gets a little hotter and we can reach high 80s or maybe low 90s, but rarely. However, heat is not the only thing to account for, humidity may be even worse for people not used to it.

Swim waves are up: http://ironmanmiami.com/?p=1069

I'm in M35-39, starting at 7:51, almost 1 hour earlier than last year, which means slightly cooler weather on the course!

Thanks, I've been training in mid 80s with humidity in Phila all summer. Hope it's not in the 90s for the run, that is my limit! No wetsuit saves some weight in the luggage.

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=vakf1gives up-to-date water temperature at Virgina Key, FL, just a few miles from the race site. The water temperature is currently around 82F; so, it's looking like it won't be wetsuit legal.

Prohibited Wetsuit: De Soto Water Rover Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 mm thick.
Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 28.8 degrees C/ 83.8 degrees F.

Last year, the last wave was for those in wetsuits; so, I'm assuming the same will happen on Sunday. I don't think it makes sense to use a wetsuit, those starting at 9AM will regret doing so when it gets hot and they still have a long way to go.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
