Subject: Calculating heart rate zones?
Maybe I am a little (okay a lot) late to the HR party, but after 4 years in endurance sports, I have finally decided to try to implement this into my training. I even bought a Garmin 310XT with a HRM to get going on this. As I have been reading up on it, it seems there is a million ways or theories on how to calculate your zones. Which one do you use? Any other HR tips for this novice in this area?

Pick one and roll with it.

About a year ago, I build a spreadsheet to calculate them all, ran the various tests, and, lo and behold, they all yielded about the same numbers. It appears, in triathlon, there are many ways to get to about the same place.

The major benefit, for me, was the feedback - my easier workouts were easier, and my harder workouts were harder - less time loafing in the zone 3 no-gain zone.

For example, my half marathon effort - high zone 3/low 4 for right at two hours. Minimal loafing in zone 2 or 3. It's a real eye-opener as to how much one can push it..

Field LT testing is usually the recommend method around here.  Read this BT article.  The Q&A link on top of the page goes to the huge thread.
