Overall Rank = 44/251
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/14
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race around 7 and set up transition.
Event warmup:

I rode my bike for a few minutes, which I'm glad I did since I noticed my arm rest was loose. I ran just a little, and then swam for a couple minutes before the start of the race.
Swim
  • 17m 32s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

There was a lot of contact throughout, and I didn't even think to check if the race was going to be wetsuit legal, which it was! So, I don't feel so bad about my time considering most people had wetsuits on.
What would you do differently?:

Check the water temperature!
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

I was fairly quick, and hopped on my bike pretty swiftly.
Bike
  • 53m 11s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was so flat I was surprised! It felt good to hold a solid pace; I just wish I had gone harder! On the way out, I felt really good and was passing a lot of people, but I didn't notice that there was a tailwind, which translated to a headwind on the way back in. I can tell that everyone struggled since the averages were slower than last year. It was a fun ride!
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed harder on the ride out, but I was wanting to go faster on the way back in. Maybe I'm glad I didn't with the headwind, but you never know...
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

I took a little extra time to wipe the sand off my feet; I really didn't want to get halfway through the run and feel it rubbing.
Run
  • 32m 43s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I loved this run. I started out keeping a solid pace, then headed into the woods and really enjoyed myself. It was hilly, and there were roots everywhere, but I really enjoyed it. The run on the trail was shady and a nice change of pace. I felt great heading back in, the best I've felt finishing a race in awhile. I think if I'd had a challenger for my position, I could've pushed a lot harder at the end, but I'm happy with feeling good.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Post race
Warm down:

took the offered cold, wet towel and relaxed in the shade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not having a stupid wetsuit

Event comments:

I loved this race: the course was fun and challenging and everything ran like clockwork.
