ITU World Triathlon Series
82F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 08m 11s
Overall Rank = 1429/2359
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 198/
Pre-race routine:

Late start between Transisition set up, and my wave start. Ate a nice breakfast before heading to the venue. Ate some Honey Stingers, and a lite dose of electrolytes and carb water mix.
Event warmup:

Yoga
Swim
  • 38m 5s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

I've been practicing my swimming since last summer, I was confident that I could handle this swim, being my first oly distance. The cold water kinda knocked the wind out of me, but I was able to get use to the water quiclkly while warming up before our wave started. After the first few hundred meters, I was swimming like I usualyl have.
What would you do differently?:

More Open Water Practice, continue bilateral breathing practice.
Transition 1
  • 07m 6s
Comments:

It was a crazy long run to the transistion area. felt like I was starting my first lap of the run! The transisiton area was set up to force all compretitors to run down the isles full length. And my area was next to the giant mud hole.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing in T1, and that should help solve the time problem
Bike
  • 1h 11m 19s
  • 40 kms
  • 33.65 km/hr
Comments:

VERY FAST BIKE COURSE!!!! I loved going onto lower wacker drive, kinda dark for sunglassess (Which were needed in the open areas)
What would you do differently?:

More training and experience will help.
Transition 2
  • 05m 48s
Comments:

I did take my sweet time in T2, I wanted to change socks. It wasnt really needed, but I was nervous of the 10k with my cycling socks. Took a gu chomp, half a coke, and off i was
What would you do differently?:

Figure socket situation better.
Run
  • 1h 05m 54s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 35s  min/km
Comments:

10k is a weak spot for me. Endurance on the run is what breaks me. 5ks? all day, but 10k I need to work on my pacing. This was all complicated because around the time I hit the course and my second lap, the course went from green to yellow. The humidity was near 97% and I just COOKED. I was not ready or prepared for the heat.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to work on my run training. I really took it for granted this year, and although my time wasnt bad compared to my just straight 10 k time. I feel i could have been MUCH MUCH faster, and I didnt get the training in for that.
Post race
Warm down:

bagels, bananas, and water. Stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My wedding 3 weeks before the event put a hole in my training schedule, and really my volume, and training types should have been different.

Event comments:

excellent course. Too bad its not a permanent deal for chicago. This ITU's seem to like to move around.
