Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread Just over a month away - pre-rides and pre-runs over the next couple of Saturday's. I really need to start doing something, I was much better prepared last year although I wasn't upset at the delay since I hadn't really been swimming - can you fake 1000 meters in a wet suit? |

Looking forward to it, but my training has been limited this year. I hope I can limp through. Do you know which "direction" the bike section is going this year? I recall that last year it was scheduled to go clockwise, unlike the prior year. |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread It will be counter clockwise. Check out the bike course Tom has loaded on Garmin Connect it is pretty accurate (except for the small section of trails that have not reopened yet. They were working on them today though so there is still hope that it will all be open by race day. It will be my first tri in 3 years and my first off road. Lot of work to do in 3 weeks - don't want no limping to the finish..... |

Extreme Veteran 694 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread I had this one planned for last year but unfortunately it was cancelled per the flooding. I was in much better "off road" shape then. I have a "free" entry into it this year and am probably going to race. Hope to pre-ride and run the course again in the next few weeks. The run is pretty flat but the ride is much tougher than you would expect for an in-park tri. There are actually some decent climbs and a sketchy section here and there. |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread I am with you about being in better ride shape last year !!! Was trying to ride the loop tonight (although I started on the east side instead of the lake) and had a new experience for me. I broke my chain - after too much time I had it back together but was not confident about my trail repair so I didn't want to push it/stress it with the climbs ahead, So I turned around and went home. Kind of disappointed, I was riding better than when I did the pre-ride with Tom. Was curious what my loop was going to be like. Oh well, time for a new chain, some derailleur tweaks and hopefully get out there again before September. Otherwise I am toying with the idea of going out Sept 6 in the morning and doing the course - at least swim 1000 in the lap area then hit the bike and run (kind of my 2013 race but at a easy going clip) - but as I typed this, I think I remembered that is when the Littlefoot tri is, so maybe that is not a good idea. |

Extreme Veteran 694 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread I rode and ran the course yesterday morning and found it to be in good shape with all trails open. There are some muddy spots on the bike but they can be avoided for the most part. I did notice that the bike trails, especially the single tracks, had a lot of grass build up, likely from lack of traffic. |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread Tuesday night and I tried my wetsuit on last night for the first time in - eeks 7 years almost. I am not sure I can swim in it. Way tight. I might switch to the DU just for that reason - nothing to do with the fact I have about 1500 yds swimming in Or maybe just the last straw. Any way you slice it - it will be interesting, not quite what I hoped for when I registered. |

Man I'm tempted to; something about swimming in 60 degree water... |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread At least it is not supposed to be 57 (my horrible harvest moon experience in 2006) I had my wetsuit soaking in the tub all week and was able to get it on better - took it to the pool and did 1000 yds (albeit slow with breaks) so I told Tom today I am going to go ahead and do the tri - maybe use 2 swim caps So I got my number 123 Felt kind of good to hear that (Triathlon easy as 123 at least that is what I told my self when I had that number in Florida in 2007) |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread How'd it go everyone? I got the race I trained for Could get a good breath in the water after the first 75-100 yds of the first lap, struggled through and the second lap went a little better and some how wasn't the last guy out of the water. took forever in transition and really didn't care, got on the bike and just cruised but never had that extra gear to push. Ran out of energy about 2- 3 miles from the end. Then did a lot of run/walk and could keep HR down - Got to the finish - ended up 4th in AG but I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't only 4 or 5 in the age group. |

Extreme Veteran 694 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: Bear It All Off Road Triathlon : Official Thread Good race all in all with no MTB specific training or speedwork. Decent swim, I too struggled on the 2nd lap and my HR was sky high coming out of the water. Cooked the bike a bit and was queasy by the end. Tough course to pass on at times. Felt flat on the run, especially the last few miles. But I was 9th overall and 1st in my AG so I'll take it. Surprised that the men's and women's race were both won by pros racing a week before XTERRA Nationals... |
