Comments: 1st 2 miles were ok, although slower than I wanted. I can attribute that to the soft spongy running surface & the long hill at the start, repeated in figure 8, & maybe also to fatique (?). HR was within target range, although it shot up to zone 4 pretty quickly on the early hill. Not unhappy, though; passed 2 runners & had 2 more behind me. Then I stupidly went off course, started doing the second figure 8 wrong, had to run up the hill an extra time. This really messed up my focus & strategy; I wasn't sure how far I'd actually be running, what would be too early to ramp up. Not happy with 2nd part of the race; only ran an extra .15 miles, but had no way of recalculating on the fly. What would you do differently?: Acknowledge that learning the course is an important part of the race, and not my strong suit. During the warm up really focus on the turns & intersections and where the flags might be ambiguous. Post race
Warm down: Recoverite & half recovery bar; pb bagel && banana. Abbreviated rolling & stretching as the guys wanted to hit the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: I've learned this: my mind can become confused during a race and fails to think. I really knew where the route went, but saw runners down on the lower part of the loop and headed there. I have been mentally lazy, counting on there being someone visibly in front of me, but there isn't always. It's not the first time it has happened. Last updated: 2014-07-21 12:00 AM

Every single one of the other Ithaca women bailed, so I rode up with the guys (only 4) who went. (It was a very interesting 2 1/2 hour ride; I only knew 1 of them & now I have 3 new friends.
Arrived 10:00 which is minimum for an 11:00 race.
Woke at 3:00am.:Regular breakfast (eggs, V8) at 5. Left house 7:15. Half a Hammer bar at 8:15, other half at 9:15. Heed at 10:30. Then I learned race start delayed half hour due to traffic snarl on Thruway. By 11:15 I felt myself fading, so I found a caffeinated gel in my bag & ate it. No GI problems.
Dynamic stretching & joint looseners. Started warm up run at 10:24. 12:32 including 2 pickups, ran the course. Near the end of my warm up, I learned the start would be delayed a half hour. Wasn't quite sure what to do with myself for half hour. Tried a little tai chi to stay focused, repeated stretches.
