Yes! I have asked the moderator to rename the thread Ironman Texas 2016 to make things a little clearer.

I have not signed up yet, but suspect I will in the next few weeks. This will be my 5th IM-TX. I missed 2014 due to a kids college graduation....I live a few hundred years from the bike course, so its a tough race for me to skip.

I'm in! This will be IMTX #3 for me. Completed in 2012. 2015 was going well but ended up with a DNF 10 miles into the run with heat exhaustion. Bad execution on my nutrition. I have a bulging disc in my neck that may require surgery, so 2016 could pose an even greater challenge if I'm even able to make it to the start.

I'm in!  3rd IM distance but 1st try at IMTX and after cheering on some teammates last year, I just couldn't pass it up!

I on the verge of pulling the trigger on IMTX . My only reservation is the swim's water quality. I've read and been told it's positively vile. Is that so? How bad is the water? What is the swim leg like generally? For the record, I love the swim part!

Thanks!

Good grief! People saying the water is "vile" have no business doing an Ironman. Is it bottled water? No. It's typical Texas lake water. It's a fairly shallow man made lake so it's murky from the mud at the bottom. That's it. If you plan on consuming mass quantities during the swim, you may not feel so good. That's no different than any other body of water you will swim in.
The swim itself is fine. The staggered start relieves some of the mass insaneness, but expect a good bit of contact with others. The finish is up a shallow canal about the last 1,000 meters. Again this will be murky due to the shallowness and can get a bit packed at times. Also, when I say shallow, I mean you can stand in many parts. Not always advisable though. Hope this helps.

When do this race usually sell out?  I was going to wait until early February to cough up the entrance fee.

Last year was November time frame I believe. It's not likely to available in February. It's the NA Championship which means more Kona slots which tends to accelerate sign ups. If fact, I don't think it's ever stayed open until February. Maybe end of December at the latest.

Thanks. Does sound like a huge departure from large, natural, deep, cool lakes I am used to in MN. Murky, shallow, mud do sound challenging. My younger bro lives in The Woodlands so the event is an excellent opp to visit and have cousin time for kids. Thanks for your reply.

Friday WTC posted on the facebook page that they're down to a few hundred spots remaining for general registration.

My spouse and I are IN!!!!

Our indoor trainers are going to be our best friend for the next five months at least.

Who has a must see movie list to share to pass the time?

Maybe we can start a movie club and have weekly discussions about the movie we all watched on the KK the prior weekend. Sort of like a book club.

This will be my first Ironman race! Do hotel rooms in the Marriott usually open up at some point with cancellations? I would really like to stay there as it is right on the course and easy for my family to kill time while I huff and puff on the bike and run.

Is IMTX usually wetsuit legal or wetsuit optional or no wetsuits at all? Is there a place to check average water temps in the Woodlands at that time of year? Just did Austin HIM, and there was no question about wetsuits there, with the air temp at 49 and water temp at 69 degrees.

Optional every year but one so far. Legal once (2014 I believe).

Thanks. Wanted to know if I should train more with or without the wetsuit. I like the confidence the suit gives me. I have noticed a significant increase in speed with it.
