Subject: IronMan tiers
So i was looking to register for my first IRONMAN and was wondering what is the difference in the tiers? it looks like most races have 3 tiers but i could not find anything that explain what each tier is.

Do you mean General Entry vs. Ironman Foundation vs. Charity Partner entries?

If so -

In short, General Entry is when the event opens up to the public for registration, they only have so many entry slots allotted for each race. It's typically between 2,000-3,000 for an Ironman event (sometimes more, depending on the venue). Once those are gone, there are no more available and the race is officially "sold out." However, if you are willing to fund-raise or donate a significant chunk extra, you can snag one of the other types of charity slots.

Looking at, for example, the Ironman Florida registration pages, Ironman Foundation will run you either $1,400 or $3,500 depending on which option you choose. Their Charity Partner entry/donation fee is $5,000. Those may also sell out.

There is no difference. It's just their way of having pricing tiers instead of "early bird" or late registration. You should see a registration date range associated with the tiers.

Also, something new that they are doing is that (on some races) they are pricing based on the nubmer of entries. Such as: 1-1,000 athletes: $449, 1,001-3,000 athletes: $499, and so on.

That makes sense now looking at the dates (http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman/coeur-dalene/register.aspx#axzz3wbBp0jDh)
where tier 1 is open from June 29 to July28 and tier 2 is open after that

thanks for the information, it was pretty helpful

Also i am currently debating between Ironman boulder and the COEUR D'ALENE. Does anyone have any information on either one of these races or some the advantages and disadvantages to both.

Thanks again

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?
