Total Time = 1h 05m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

Not much. Walked around and watched race start. I was in wave 2. Had some GI issues , but worked them out before the race started.
Event warmup:

Got in pool with 15 min spare. Did a few laps to warm up. Probably not enough.
Swim
  • 10m
  • 475 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ugly. Went out WAY to fast. Did my first 100 in 1:47 (i think). After that, i was constantly winded and ended up doing back for the rest of the race. Not happy with that. Really wanted to be able to settle into the rhythmn and benefit from all the work I put in since last year.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down in the beginning. Went out too hard and never recovered all the way
Transition 1
  • 10m
Comments:

Put my bra on right way around this year, so it is an improvement over last year!!
Bike
  • 20m
  • 4.1 miles
  • 12.30 mile/hr
Comments:

New spin bikes at gym suck!! The resistance was way too low for is race, so we were all bobing around like crazy. I don't think i managed to get my seat screwed down tight enough either, so it rocked back and forth some the whole time.

Probably won the prize for biggest sweat pool under the bike though!!!
What would you do differently?:

Probably spend more time working high cadence stuff before the race.
Transition 2
  • 10m
Comments:

Not much to this one. Changed shoes and then headed to run start area. Spent some time stretching my calves, but probably should have spent more--they were tight during the first half of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 15m
  • 1.16 miles
  • 12m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh this sucked!!! I was hoping to do so much better than last year, but ended up with the same number of laps, although this year I did run a tiny bit farther. I never really go into a rhythmn I liked. Was also pretty hot and sweaty by then. It was warm in the rec.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked about half a mile. Then showered and waited for awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being in Vegas until 10pm the night before and the fact that I didnt sleep the night before!

Event comments:

Nice start to the season. Well run by friendly, open folks who are encouraging to all. Only issue with this race is that it takes them about an hour after the last heat finishes to get the results ready and announce them. It seams like there should be some way to speed that up.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

I may not have pre-pubescent hips or breasts and at 36 that would be ridiculous. I do not need to have an "airbrushed body" and why do I revere that?

The human body can endure extreme physical hardships but a trained, confident mind can endure much more.
