Comments:

worst swim of my life. Horrible chop at turn. Had to stop for air. Clusters of people every place. First time I ever stopped during a swim.
What would you do differently?:

Comments:

Horrible rain 10 minutes into the bike. A bad accident in front of me. Jumped off my bike to help. A guy was flying down the mountain. he un-clipped, lost control and took out a group in front of me. A girl was knocked out cold. A guy was covered in blood and having trouble breathing. Did what I could to help until help arrived. A bunch of us stopped. How could you not.
My race hopes were over at this point. Freaked me out. Took it real easy the rest of the way.
Transition 2

Run

  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I had no motivation at this point. I was freaked out by the accidents. I was hoping my wife was okay. I saw her on the run course and felt better. She was also involved/delayed by several smaller accidents on the bike course.
Post race
Warm down:

waited for wife in tent

What limited your ability to perform faster:

rain, accidents

Event comments:

The race set up was great. Best Ironman set up in my opinion anywhere. I think due to the carnage on the bike course they should have thought about shortening the bike route to 1 loop. It felt very unsafe and nerve racking waiting for the possibilities of someone flying into you or falling down in front of you. I don't know if I would feel the same if I did not see the one horrible accidents and at least 5 other smaller ones.
On to Ironman Maryland for hopefully some better weather and revenge.

Luckily I was slow enough to only get to the accident after it was mostly cleared. They were just taking the last victim away.

Thank you for stopping to help.

Even though your race didn't go as planned, it certainly ended better than theirs.

On to the next race! Good luck at IMMD.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
