Committing to a longer plan this year (7month HIM), I'm assuming my pace will increase over time. Do you go back in and change the pace and regenerate the training plan?

The plans are made knowing you will become more fit and quicker over time, but they usually compensate for that by having you do more interval training later in the plan. So you'll be running/biking/swimming a harder pace for portions of your workout, and "recovering" at your old pace during the rest intervals.

From a practical/technical perspective, you can regenerate a custom training plan using new data, but you can't edit an existing one.

Something to think about.........your race is in miles. No matter what.......you're going to have to build your fitness to cover 70.3 miles in whatever the time of your goal.....or, the cutoffs (as a last resort).

My question to you is.......why would you NOT do your planned workouts by distance? If the reason is......."it will take longer".......so what? Just don't assign or acknowledge arbitrary paces.

There'll be a time when you only want to run or ride a certain time interval. Even then, that should be based on your particular pacing.

Point well taken. I can spend a long time constructing training plans and reworking them. Trying to not think to much, just follow the training plan, trusting the plan will get me to the goal without injury (I'll be 58 in two days).
Just wanting to understand the best way to get the most from the plan.
I've wasted a few years going out too hard and having to take weeks off and never getting my mojo back.

I really am a slow learner. Just realized that the gap is due to my being unrealistic about my times! If I fess up to my actual speeds the distances and the times should come together for me.

Put my money down for the Patriot Half! Lake swim, flat course - made for me. Doing a sprint plan to get myself ready for a HIM plan starting Dec. 3. It's a long plan (28 weeks) but I need the time to build slowly. Knees acting up again, but it's arthritis so resting won't help. Resting too often has derailed me too many times.

If you can complete at least 80% of 3 times the swim distance, 2.66 times the bike distance, and 2.33 times the run distance during your final peak training weeks, you'll make it to the finish line of your 70.3.
