I have a friend who is a terrible asthmatic. She can bike and swim however without much trouble. Anyway she loves to bike and swim, is there such an event as a strictly swim and bike event?

My husband has asthma, as well as being overweight. He isn't allowed to run yet. As I pointed out, and he agrees, you don't have to run the run portion. As long as you do well on the swim and bike and have a fast enough walk to finish before any cut-off times, there's no reason your friend can't give it a go. Another option is for her to be part of a relay team. She could either swim or bike (or both!) and then pass off the run to her partner in crime.

Isn't a swim/bike called an aquathon?  Or is that swim/run?

Aquathlon is a run/swim/run.

Aquabike is a swim-bike. Some of the bigger races (even M-dot races) have that option. It's the same course as the regular race, you just don't do the run. You might also find some smaller local races with those options (I know of one called a Stroke 'n Spoke).

Yes, that kind of race exists, it's called an AquaBike. There aren't many of them, but they're there specifically for people who want to participate in multisport but can't or just don't like to run.

Their usually put on in conjunction with another race. You swim and bike with the other participants, but don't go out onto the run course. The Musselman half-iron in Geneva, NY is a good example. If she can't find one in your area, contact the people who put on some of the tris around you and ask if they'd create an AquaBike division in their races. It just means more participants for them so I imagine most RD's would be willing to at least consider it.
