Oskarshamn triathlon - Triathlon

Oskarshamn, Kalmar
Sweden
Total Time = 1h 20m 16s
Overall Rank = 23/34
Age Group = Women
Age Group Rank = 2/8
Pre-race routine:

Left at 8, 1h30 drive. Loud music, loud singing. Checked in my stuff, went to the toilet, got told off my the toilet police for using the handicap restroom.

Event warmup:

Lite jog, stretching, a few strokes in the very cold water. I felt a little faint because of it but once I got used to it, I knew it would be ok.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 450 meters
  • 01m 48s / 100 meters
Comments:

Nice swim, my fastest 400m (450 according to my watch), averaged 1:56m/100 m, was able to draft behind a few swimmers.

Very pleased with the swim , much faster than last year (in your face 2023 Nat with your 9:35 minutes)
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

About 100m jog to my spot. No problems removing my wetsuit but I felt that I was losing my balance, a little dizzy after the swim so I had to take a few extra seconds. Decent T1

Bike
  • 44m 8s
  • 21.5 kms
  • 29.23 km/hr
Comments:

First 5k felt great and really fast but much slower on the way back, same thing on the second lap. Yet, looking at my data, I averaged about 29 or 30k/h the whole time. This is my regular sprint tempo so I should be happy here (I am) but last year I averaged 31.6 on the same course.

Not sure why. It was quite windy, may that’s why

Transition 2
  • 00m 26s
Comments:

A great T2, smooth and fast. Tried to move a little quicker than the last few times.
Run
  • 26m 30s
  • 4.87 kms
  • 05m 26s  min/km
Comments:

Goal was to average 5:22/km, I knew I was not going to do beat last year’s time (25:45)

After the first 2k I was on target but the next two were much slower (5:37) . Was able to push on the last km (pretty much all downhill, which helped) but not enough.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

As the peeps from BDAS know because I have been moaning about it a lot, I am so much slower on the run this year so I was not expecting to beat last year’s time because of that. Turns out I lost this mainly on the bike, didn’t see that coming.

Bike focus training on the cards for the next few weeks then?

Event comments:

Nice friendly race

toilet police?!?!? I don't know how it is in Sweden, but seriously, I imagine a triathlon has pretty low attendance in the handicapped community.

also...a sub-30" T2 is just amazing!

There wasn’t a para-class in this race but my home race has one.

The toilet police was a camping guest (the race was next to a campsite and we were allowed to use the toilets there). He was just coming out of the handicapped toilet so it’s not like I pushed him out of the way to use it. I should have asked him if he needed to go again

It was a very short transition aera, 30-40 yards, no more.

Great job Nat.

5:26/km when you were aiming for 5:22 is a win in my book. Your run is coming back.

Great race, Nat.  I'll bet that bike time is a result of the wind and maybe the cold swim.  Great run and as usual killing the transitions.

It's tough to race against our formal selves because there are so many variables (swim course, temp, wind).
