![]() Swim
Comments: Staggered start, I was #142 out of 170 registered, so it was 25 minutes between the first person starting and my start. Swim went well, passed 8 or 10 people, only swam one length breaststroke to catch my breath. What would you do differently?: Put down a more accurate estimated swim time. That would have enabled me to start sooner, and to not have to pass as many people ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Got shoes and socks on OK, had problem with shirt. Times are estimated since I forgot to stop my watch before and after the transitions. What would you do differently?: Skip the shirt. I was one of few men that even bothered, and I lost 20-30 seconds wrestling with it. Need to practice the entire transition more. ![]() Bike
Comments: Was winded when I got on the bike, settled down after a while into a comfortable pace. Too many turns to have a better average speed, I was around 22-23mph on the straights. Passed a lot of people, had only one young guy pass me. Slight sprinkles and wind picked up a little. Was worried that it would start pouring before I got off the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Ride went pretty well given the conditions. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Slower people got in the way at dismount. No problem racking bike and changing shoes.Went out the wrong way, had to reverse direction and go the right way. What would you do differently?: Pay attention and focus. I knew I had to go out the other way, just wasn't thinking. ![]() Run
Comments: Really felt the heat and humidity when I started the run. Took a while to get the jello feeling out of my legs, by then I started to get a stitch in my diphragm, which I had to tolerate the entire two miles. Really felt like a 10:00 pace the whole way. Dante and Dakota ran with me when I first started then at the end to boost my kick. What would you do differently?: Have city-parish government air condition the streets. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Not much, drank a water then stood around and chatted until they posted results. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need to keep training and to practice transitions. Event comments: Race director posted "preliminary" results that got me worried as I wasn't listed. Really wanted to see my splits. When they were finally posted, I was shocked to see that I was second in my age group. Also didn't like that they lumped both transition times in with the bike time. Still, not a bad outing for the first time. Last updated: 2004-07-01 12:00 AM

First triathlon, so I had not a clue on how to act. Woke up at 4am, drank my coffee, ate a Cliff Bar, showered shaved, finished loading the car and left. Got to site by 6 am, set up T1, had plenty of time to kill.
Talked with friends, took a dip in the pool, jogged a little bit, went to the restroom 18 times.
