I redid the last post as a poll. Will be interesting to see what it shows after a month or two!

great polls triman!

we can also monitor that age-old debate between clip and clipless on this poll...it will be very, very interesting.

I used my GT mountian bike. It was my first tri. I put street tires on and a friend of my gave me a pair of areo bars. It worked ok.

Raleigh M45 mtn bike with knobbies and steerhorn riser bar. Love that hum on the black top. Next year, will pull out my 25 year old Motobecane Mirage 10 speed with skinny tires and tune it up. Gonna have to put a more comfortable seat on it though. Question: why does my derriere hurt more now when I have more natural padding than when I was younger?

Giant TCR Composite-1, with ultegra. Amazing bike, I just bought it. I needed something I could enter in road races as well as being a fast tri bike. I'm not a climber, but it's so light (the frame weighs 2.2 lbs!), and the geometry is so agressive that I don't get dropped any more.
It's also sexy as hell, and that matters.
oh, and I've got old Time pedals on there, soon to be updraded.

I have a Trek multi-track hybrid. Clipless pedals & aftermarket crankset. (I live in a place where we have these things called hills!) It's great on groomed trails where I do a lot of my riding. It is a bit of a dog on the road. I'd like to get a road machine or tri bike next year.

Since I am new, I just bought a cheap hybrid ~$250. It is a Diamondback Wildwood. I am currently using as is but will decide soon if want to change pedals and add aerobar or not soon.

Just bought a new Felt F75 road bike on ebay. Last year's model and last one left, so was half price! I will be adding aero bars. It comes with clipless pedals

Raleigh Tenchnium (aluminum) road bike with toe clips. I've added aero bars and a cyclometer (if that's the right term for it ... it tells me speed and distance).

Borther in law got it at a garage sale for $15 ... he went to Iraq, gave me the bike. I can afford that.

If I can finish an oly distance tri at the front of the MOP, my reward will be a nice tri bike. If I'm going to be a lifetime MOP'er .. I might as well spend the $1500 on a new computer (or a finished basement) or something I'll get more out of.

I am training on an older Raleigh steel frame 12-speed road bike (57cm). Trying to find a cheap aero bar. It has Raleigh components, clip/strap pedals and Araya 700c/25 light-weight rims/tires. I use a Sigma Sport BC1400 computer. Weighs in at 27lbs.

I also have an old steel frame Colnago 12-speed road bike (57cm) trying to set up for racing. I upgraded to a Selle gel seat. It has Shimano 105 components, and Mavic 700c/25 rims/tires. I am looking for tri bars and Speedplay clipless pedals. Current weight 21lbs.

I am waiting for a used Trek fluid rear stand trainer I got off eBay for indoor use during the rain.

I am fortunate enough to have purchased two decent bikes over the years. I am currenly riding a Schwinn Le Tour Lux that is about 15 years old. Started life as a "touring bike" now has narrow nobbys for sping and sloppy ridding conditions. The bike has shimanoo parts with look clipless pedals and arro bars. My primary bike is a Trek 2300 road bike, carbon fiber/aluminum frame. It has Shimano components, arro bars and clipless pedels. I am not sure how the clipless pedals will work in transition, but I have been wearing them for years. I have a hand full of century rides under my belt since I was 15 and only one was aborted. This was due to clip regular pedals with add on clips cutting thru my sneakers. As far as I am concerned a solid riding shoe is a must for distance ridding on the road. Foot flex is almost eliminated and the power of each stroke is sent to the cranks much better. Just my two cents.

I haven't done a tri yet but when I do...next May...I will use my road bike. My road bike is an aluminum Pecco Eclipse with Shimano 105 group, aero wheels and clipless pedals. I may get clip-on aero bars but that is about all I plan on changing for now. Eventually, if I should find that I like doing triathlons, I will probably get myself a Cervélo P2K...see: http://cervelo.com/bikes/P2K.html

I just purchased my bike for the upcoming Tri season. I will be riding a Specialized Allez Sport with Aerobars and clipless pedals. I have never owned a road bike and am very pleased with the performance so far. It sure is a lot better ride than my old Giant Attraction.

I have a very basic Bianchi Eros road bike with campagnolo shifters and components. What are you calling a triple crank? I might have it, but I wouldn't know! What is the difference between clip and clipless pedals? I have these cheapo beginnner LOOKs that I have struggled to get used to. I have them loosened to the point where it is pretty easy to get in and out, but I still am unsure if I like these or if all of these types of pedals that "connect" the rider to the bike are unnerving at first. Do they qualify as clip or clipless?

The Bianchi Eros is a good beginners's bike. A triple crank set refers to a crankset having three chain rings instead of the usual two. This is beneficial to riders who live in especially hilly areas but is hardly necessary for triathlons whose cycling portions are usually performed on flat surfaces. Clipless pedals are the mechanical pedals onto which your cycling shoe actually "click" into; this may seem confusing but it actually refers to the fact that there are no toe clips on them. Don't give up on your clipless pedals; once you get used to them, you will never ride without them again.

Then I have a triple crank ;-) !! Thanks for the information. I have loved my bike. I took a spill while riding with a group of local riders. We were launching and I was too close to the rider in front of me. When he slowed way WAY down, I dove for the borrow ditch so as not to make a tandem out of our bikes. I couldn't loosen my foot from those silly pedals (still getting used to them). I came away from the ride with road rash and a chain ring tatoo and we still managed to log 16 miles that day!

Here are the bikes that I ride, train and race on:
Trek 480 (first bike, I still use it on my trainer)
Shwinn Homegrown, mountain bike, xtr-12-36
Cannondale R4000-road bike see little use any more, dur-ace 9speed 12-23, spinergy wheels
Trek 5500-road bike, I do most of my training on it, dur-ace 9speed 12-25 (soon to be campy 10speed), rolf vector wheels.
Litespeed Gisalo, road bike, mostly used on hill work out days dur-ace 10speed 12-27, mavic wheels.
I don't have a tri bike but maybe in the future.
Oh, left this out all are clipless
