Overall Rank = 111/115
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 24/24
Pre-race routine:

Only had 1.5 hours of sleep last night. Got in late and was just too nervous and excited and tossed and turned. Not to mention I didn't have my CPAP machine for my apnea. Got up at 0430 had my protein mix and lots of vitamin water.
Event warmup:

None really. It was a wade swim start so I had to swim out to the buoy and tread water for 10 minutes.
Swim
  • 28m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a great swim for me. The time here includes the short beach run. I always seem to swim faster in open water. Pools piss me off with having to stop and turn around all the time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing here. I had a great swim and actually passed a bunch of people.
Transition 1
  • 06m 20s
Comments:

I really took T1 pretty easy. I knew I wasn't going to have a stellar day and just wanted to take my time get everything right and get to bike course without forgetting anything.

The official results lump T1 in with the swim. I used my lap data from my watch to get this time.
What would you do differently?:

Give a darn! LOL.
Bike
  • 1h 47m 50s
  • 16.16 miles
  • 8.99 mile/hr
Comments:

The first three hills were the worst of it. EVERYONE had to get off the bike and climb up the 60^ incline. The climbs really sapped me for a hard return. The return included a stint on pavement and I hit 35 MPH on the MTB!
What would you do differently?:

Find hills to climb bigger than what I have been doing. DRINK MORE ON THE BIKE!
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

T2 was pretty cool. The volunteers were racking the bikes for us. all we had to do was grab out T2 bag and change out. I thought i was taking a long time to get it all done but I got out pretty fast.

The official results lump T2 in with the run. I used my lap data from my watch to get this time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing here.
Run
  • 1h 24m 58s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 13m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow what a hard run. Immediately out of T2 we climbed a large mountain. My quads started to cramp right away. I hit the first aid station at the 1 mile mark and had to sit there for 5 minutes chugging gatoraide and Gu packs. It seemed as if my legs would go about 3/4 mile and then the legs would cramp up again. All the volunteers were great and helped a lot. I took way too long on the run because of having to stop at the aid stations and walking a lot of the uphill portions.
What would you do differently?:

Run trails to get in trail shape. Oh and drink a TON more on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Lay flat on the grass and let my heart stop working so hard.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Proper salt/hydration intake on the bike.

Event comments:

I was trying to hit a time of 3:30:00 for my first Xterra. I missed my goal by 20 minutes, but I'm really just happy to have finished and survived with no major problems.

Hey, I was there cheering you all on! My coaches company, Durapulse Perfromance, was one on the main co-sponsors and we had folks working the run aid stations. Great job, especially considering how cold it was!

Nice job. Sounds like you had some mountains to "ride" up.

Way to go.  I guess this course lived up to it's name, X-treme.  And you did it!

Good job! That is a very difficult course. I have heard it is one of the harder ones on the Xterra circuit. I did Fountain Mountain last fall which is the same swim and run with a road bike.

Are you going to do the Xterra @ Show Low? I am signed up and have a loaner Mtn bike. How about Fountain Mountain this fall. Good fun difficult races!

You did great for your first Xterra! Congrats! I did this race awhile back as my first Xterra too. It is a very difficult course, but you survived! I remember climbing on all fours on the run course. Heh.

Will you be doing Deuces Wild? It's a beautiful course and well worth the trip!
