Swim
Comments: I felt much better about my navigation in this race because despite the fog I kept my sighting short and controlled and didn't relent on my stroke rhythm if I didn't find my target right away. The first 200 yards was scary with everyone running into each other, I could have gone a little faster so as to not get trampled, but I feel great that I survived. My legs were so cold that at one point I wondered if they were still kicking. When the olymic tri men caught up to me I had someone to keep up with and the last 300 yards were solid. What would you do differently?: Wear a frickin' wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: I had a great T1 time, but I would have sacrificed a few seconds to have had a wetsuit on the swim. It was awesome hearing "Yosh-dogger" being screamed at me when Jas came into the transition area. I had a much better start by first getting up to speed and then putting my feet in the clips. What would you do differently?: It was hard to put on my long-sleeve shirt being wet still. I should put some powder in the sleeves or dry off with a towel first. Bike
Comments: I felt very strong and comfortable, using all my gears to get lots of speed and pass other bikers. It was fun having the bike computer to tell me how fast I was going and how much farther I had to go. What would you do differently?: I don't think I would do anything differently. Oh, I should have used the orange lenses rather than the black ones in my glasses. Transition 2
Comments: I took off my helmet while running with bike. Racked the bike well and even had a second to blow my nose. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I am so proud of myself for running strong the whole time. I kept steady breathing and didn't have any cramping. I knew it was short so I could keep the pace. It was difficult when my feet were numb for the first mile, and it felt weird with the rocky trail. What would you do differently?: Figure out a way to warm up my feet. Post race
Warm down: Some stretching and drinking water. Then we ate BBQ! What limited your ability to perform faster: I was freezing during the swim. I need a wetsuit for water that cold. Event comments: I had a great race overall and I couldn't be happier about getting the bronze medal (my first bling!!) Jasmine is an awesome race partner and friend. It was great to do this with her (#731 5th place in our AG!!!) I also have to say it was wonderful to have Desi and Brian cheering us along. I love that I can say I am a triathlete. Until next year... Last updated: 2004-09-28 12:00 AM

Got out of bed at 5:15 to eat cheerios with sliced bananas for breakfast (don't forget the oj...from concentrate). Put on my tri suit with sweats over and then made the hour drive with Jasmine. Missed the lines to pick-up the packet and set up our transition. Number 698.
Jasmine and I jogged from the swim out through the transition and out and back on the bike course. Some stretching and socializing (with Brian, Desi and Bella) before stepping on to the sand.
