Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: TDF Bike Challenge WEEK 1 RESULTS After one full week of Tour De France action the teams are hitting the pedals and heading out on the road to meet their goals. In total the challenge has 73 riders taking part, over 10 teams… with each rider on average having completed at least 4 stages to date. On average each rider is aiming to complete almost 12 stages for the challenge and has completed 38% of their goal to date, on track to reach 100%. In total 9 riders are attempting to ride ever Tour De France stage with special mention to Euskaltel Euskadi (I think I FINALLY spelt that right) rider gaiaserver who has planned his entire 21 workouts to match with the stage being ridden in the tour. A few of the riders have had ‘incidents’, Barloworld rider sf_biggestlooser had his road bike totalled by an angry deer on the way to his race last weekend, he is now surviving with a mountain bike and stationary bike. Astana rider Apw0397 took on the back of a Honda Odyssey doing more damage to the car than his bike. A bit sore and scratched he didn’t back off on his training one little bit. Over on Euskaltel Euskadi Team, Willie05 had a bike issue of another kind, getting his bike trapped in its lock on the car due to a lost key. After attacking it with a hack saw and a bolt cutter he resorted to using a locksmith to set his bike free! Just a couple of days later a couple of deer thought about taking him on during a ride, but he whistled and scared them off (sf_biggestloser may need this strategy for next time)
Astana Cathyd is the lone girl on this team which she named the team of ‘bad boys’. Nicknamed Team Borat, with some help from images supplied by Tri-Aya, the team is rolling along. Z-Dog provided some witty one liners, threatening to send the Ninja Turtles after Barloworld which set me off in a fit of giggles but Im not sure anyone else found it quite as funny!!! Special mention to Tri3 who deserves extra credit for taking up the team leader rule when no one else would (thanks). Goal Stages: 76 Achieved Stages: 25 Percentage Achieved: 32.89%
Barloworld Really getting into the spirit of the challenge, Barloworld have been talking up their chances as the newbies and currently have the LONGEST thread of the challenge! Wurkit_gurl should get a mention as she originally recruited for the newbie team in other forums and they have been supporting each other through all of their personal training challenges in the last week. Team successes include JoshKaputer finishing his first tr and this week signing up for his first HIM, Savageman, Wurkit_gurl has a PR on a hilly ride, sf_biggest looser is still without a road bike but participating anyway and DoloresM2 completed her first brick. Special warm thoughts to DMarkSwan who is expecting a Barlo baby any second… not sure how he is fitting his rides in but he is! The team is being led by TriAya who just finished her longest ride ever! Goal Stages: 80 Achieved Stages: 37 Percentage Achieved: 46.25%
Credit Agricole Led by the cheese obsessed Sappho96 the team is calling themselves “Les Vertes Emmentals” (basically the green swiss cheeses (emmentals = the French version of swiss cheese I think?) The whole team has taken the cheese thing to heart making their team thread hard to follow due to everyone adopting it as their avatar to show their loyalty. Daman kicked off the team action with a 40km ride, they got a random drop in to cheer them along and the team is training strong all round (even swimming and running during challenge!) Shermbelle kicked off his challenge with a HIM, naners went on a fun sounding shrimp shack turned pancake ride and katzchem learnt what its like to ride like a kid… Shermbelle rounded it all with a 6mile trip for ice cream! (and a great sig line ‘Big Dreams, Big Goals, Lots of Work&rsquo Goal Stages: 85 Achieved Stages: 33 Percentage Achieved: 38.82%
Discovery Freckle Face was named as team captain because marmadaddy decided ‘Captain Freckle Face’ “sounds funny”, thanks for going along with it J BikerGrrrl is training for a 65miler on August 4, dlaxman31 named them the ‘real team’, drdi took on her first metric century of the season and the captain got a new toy! (Garmin 305!!!) Goal Stages: 91 Achieved Stages: 39 Percentage Achieved: 42.86%
Euskaltel Euskadi A couple of Orbea riders to match the tour team and those distinctive orange jerseys sure stand out in threads. Team member Lil_Turtle just finished her first triathlon on the weekend beating her goal time by 4 minutes, OrbeaMan is signed up for a HIM in October and drooled over the pro teams orange Orbeas. (the showed off his own nice looking stead) Goal Stages: 98 Achieved Stages: 32 Percentage Achieved: 32.65%
Predictor Lotto ScotinSeattle had a strange few days wondering if she would be attacked by marshmallows, threatening to quit, popping Tylenol and using chocolate to get her back on the bike. Deputy Dawg has stuck it out with rides on the stationary bike at the Y, Kathy G has ridden an organised TT and with her bike team (very TDF-ish) and Enders Shadow returned from vacation. Fittingly Aussie Casie put her hand up for team leader, I guess that makes her the team Cadel! Goal Stages: 93 Achieved Stages: 31 Percentage Achieved: 33.33%
Saunier Duval Many of the team wanted to be yellow/gold and black so this was there team! Owner of a Saunier Duval jersey, spokes took the reigns as captain early on. Ell-in-or is setting PRs and hitting 30mph with a bit of a tail wind (Go Girl!), chrisrunsz is sticking with riding all stages in the face of sore legs and goofyfooter is keeping up with the pace too! Special mention to soretaint who took on a 200+mile ride, over 11 hours of riding on the weekend so if you haven’t read the RR go give him some props! Goal Stages: 103 Achieved Stages: 36 Percentage Achieved: 33.33%
Team CSC Four people on the team are aiming to ride all 21 stages, not sure how they all ended up together and Melhindi is the self nominated team rookie and keeping up with the boys. The boys showed off their bikes making me weak at the knees and the CSC fast men Cancellara and Zabrike got Daremo’s loins stirring. Jens nominated himself the teams prologue specialist and Daremo’s continuing rides got jcjsc00 motivated to keep it up. Mikethebear is on vacation, so the team is hoping he is riding, Chris Tree is away too so it’s a bit quiet right now. Goal Stages: 109 Achieved Stages: 41 Percentage Achieved: 37.61%
T-Mobile Pretty in pink, T-Mobile is small on talk, BIG on action. Oweiss is training for the Vineman Aquabike in August, Joblin is representing the German element of the team and pzdpir the Aussie team leader. After seeing Daremo on CSC nominate 21 rides for the challenge madcow followed suit figuring if you watch the tour and have a trainer, you can ride the tour! Devouahy set the team a challenge to beat all other teams to goal completion and Gina76 has nominated her two Chihuahuas as the mascot for the team. Nette213 organised the team, put her hand up for team leader keeping everyone organised and inspired in the past week… great! Goal Stages: 91 Achieved Stages: 39 Percentage Achieved: 42.86%
Agritubel By special request the injured riders found their own home on the Agritubel team in order to give them a chance to take part in the challenge. Started by Ontherun who managed to race inspite of an injury this past weekend and now being apply lead by Breezy who rode with the big boys yesterday don’t right them off just because they are injured. Goal Stages: 35 Achieved Stages: 14 Percentage Achieved: 40.00%
Overall results are as follows: 1) Barloworld 2) Discovery/T-Mobile 3) Agritubel 4) Credit Agricole 5) Team CSC 6) Saunier Duval 7) Astana 8) Predictor Lotto 9) Euskaltel Euskadi We are well into Week 2… ALLEZ!!!
