Can anyone provide me with some guidance on what I should do during the winter months. I looked at the BT 20 week (7-10) winter maintenance program and it looked pretty good except there are VERY few rest days. First one isn't until about day 19. I thought we were supposed to have one rest day per week. I do cross training stuff like ski and hockey, etc, and strength training but have no idea how much run/bike/swim to do.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Anne

I like to take the winter to focus on the area that is my weakest.  Its a good time to invest in some lessons, strength training and most importantly to build your base.  Lots of long slow distance workouts.  I also like to take some time "off".  I'll stay active, but instead of mainly doing the s, b, r workouts, I'll add in some variety, try something new to keep things fresh.

I am looking at the off season running focus training plan too. I will have to bump to a silver membership!

I agree with the idea of focusing on one discipline during the off season, or at least one at a time. Most coaches would tell you that 3 runs, 3 bikes, and 3 swims per week isn't going to do much more than maintain your current levels. During the last off season I cut way back on biking and swimming and averaged 5 runs a week for 5 months at very low intensity just to build a good base. My running is feeling much better this summer.
