I think I'll try to make this one.

Its sounding February is the month of the sprint tri. Redlands, UCD, and now UCI.

This one is practically in my own backyard. I have already signed up for the Redlands tri on Feb 10.

Any recomendations on if I should do two back to back in consecutive weekends? I am in relatively good shape and Redlands will be my first ever tri.

Any thoughts on recovery and if I will cause myself any harm?

Thanks
Brad

I'm no expert, but I think doing 2 sprint tris back to back would not be a problem, especially if you are training for any longer distances, since you probably would already be doing bricks that were longer than that.

I was going to go to Redlands, but I'm going to do this one instead. Maybe I'll end up trying both, but for right now I like the Irvine course better. The Redlands race description mentioned that there might be traffic on the bike course. They also misspelled Duathlon on their home page. As an editor, spelling counts with me. It shows a lack of attention to detail.

I'm the same way. I'm an engineer, and supposedly we can't write, nor do we care about writing, or grammar, or spelling, or any of that non-mathematical stuff.... but I can't stand seeing misspellings on websites or publications of any kind.

Looks like a good event and I think my wife and I would do it, but we'll be out of town that weekend. We're planning on Redlands at this point.

Nice work. I'm always up for a meeting BT'ers. Let's form a plan when we're a bit closer to the race.

My 13 yr old niece and I officially signed up on Monday. Looks like they are only allowing 250 people in, so this won't be a huge field and just might sell out.

I signed up a couple days ago, it will be my 2nd official tri and my first as a member of the ucsb tri team. I'm looking forward to it, although I'm a little nervous about swimming last b/c that is my weakest area. See everyone there!

In case anyone cares, I had Ron add it to the list of races in the race nexus.

My first tri was in December, the Hemet Tinsel Tri, a reverse sprint, and my experience with that one was that swimming last is hard. This one has a 250 meter swim at the end, more than twice as long as the one in Hemet. For me I had PBs for the run and bike, and the swim was sloooow going. I guess my point here is to leave a little in the tank for that swim, it's five lengths of the pool, which is a warm-up during a workout, but not so easy off the bike in a race. I was surprised how hard it was to swim 100. My two cents.

FWIW, I think the Tinsel tri swim was supposed to be 150m (3 lanes x 50m) but ended up being a bit longer because of the diagonal swim across that 2nd lane. And yes, I agree it was surprisingly difficult after the run & bike.

If you paid for the race, you will get the shirt as long as you go to the expo.

Most sprint tri's don't have any medal for finishing. So you aren't missing anything.

Sorry about the knee.

Sorry about the knee... Definitely pick up yer Tee.. Always fun to get a 1st Annual Tee... Guess I'll hit the gym at the Belmont Plaza pool and bike a bit first on Friday, then hit the pool for a swim practice to see how this is going to work..250 meters, huh?

Weather's looking like 50 degrees, 0% chance of rain, and perfectly sunny. Doesn't get to be any better race weather than that! Whoohoo.

Looks like the bike course is a big star pattern. This may mean its going to be mad all out short sprints, followed by either a 180* or 90* turn.

And I have a feeling the 25 yard pool is going to get quite crowded.

Should be interesting to say the least.

I'm 90% that I'll be there. I'm fighting a cold and it really depends on how I feel in the morning.

If I do show up I'll have on black tri shorts and a blue tri top and I'll be on a black Kuota with a blue Adamo seat.

I talked with Cashmason and we were thinking of grabbing a cup of coffee or a bagel after the race if any BT'ers are up for it.

I hope to see you there.

Jeff
