Definitely feeling the first race of the season/first HIM nerves...lots of interesting race dreams going on at night!

The bike course is WSW going out and ENE coming back...a SW wind might make it tough going out, but would be a treat coming back. Typically the coastal winds are SE and we've had a lot out of the east the last couple weeks...I guess my vote is for just about anything except something from the easterly direction (I don't want to totally drain myself before the run). and unfortunately, looks like the air temp is going to be in the 80s.

Have a good rest of the week and a good day traveling Friday. Enjoy your OWS!

KathyG - 2010-04-20 8:56 AM To the amusement of many Kevin & I did short swim in our wetsuits at our local YMCA.  Pool was over 80 so I didn't keep mine on for long but glad to get one swim in before flying to TX. Glad we can do another swim Friday after we land at Hobby.

I'm getting excited and having that pre first race of the season nerves.

So which way do we hope the wind blows if it isn't still and calm Sunday?

I still would put in a weather request for 65 and sunny without wind if possible.

I'm enjoying tapering but am busy with kids off school this week and test riding possible new bikes plus add in packing.

How's everyone else doing?

From what I have heard there will be no pre swims on Friday or race morning at Moody Gardens.  If you read earlier in the forum many people are going to swim at a couple of areas close to Houston.

I don't know about TX but in general taking the bus in US is not at all like Europe.

You could check Greyhound on line to see what they have.

Me to I'm ready.

I wish there was an instant there button instead of putting all this tri gear in suitcases, packing up my bike, airports, airplanes, and all that traveling to 70.3 takes.

I did fuss a lot with my power tap Zipp 404 wheel...get battery changed was hassle, put aero cover on it, new cassette, change break pads, buy crack pipe (adapter to pump up tire since it is now disc like) new CO2 as other one was to big, and go to 2 bike stores to do it. Glad I didn't want to much until the very last minute to take care of this.

Doing hour ride with Zipps tomorrow, washing my bike, then packing it up. My husband is riding my bike Saturday for the Sprint.

It will be great to meet many of you this weekend. The TX BT group has always been very active & fun vibe and now I get to meet lots of you! It's cool that many others are flying in from other parts of the country and England as well.

I'm with ya on getting this show on the road....working my last evening shift tonight then going to try to rest and relax, then pack up the family truckster with the family on Friday and head to Galveston.  It seems I have been overly obsessed with this thing, constantly thinking about it and going over things in my head for the transistions, etc.  I wish everyone good luck this weekend!!

I put this in my blog today and thought I'd post it here as well...so smile when it hurts on the run as we are the select few who can do this.

My coach last year sent this to me before IM Canada and find it hits the heart of why we do these longer races.

Why else do we do this? Do we do this because we want a totally comfortable race, just to trot on in with everything perfect, nice, and comfortable. Be honest with yourselves. This is NOT why we do these. We do these because we want to feel the suffering, and we want to accept the challenge, face our fears, and push through all of it. We do this out of the love of taking ourselves out to the edge and fighting back to complete the task before us. This is why we've trained months on end. So we have the strength to accept the challenge....and excel.

You are all athletes. You are really, honestly a select few in the world that can do this. Think of this, you should smile when you are feeling the worst out there, late in the marathon, and realize how great it is to be...and feel...alive.

Great quote Kathy!

I am ready.  Need to get my house cleaned up and the sheets washed (mom stays here with the pup).

Got the bike back from my awesome mechanic yesterday.  Turns out I badly kinked the rear deraileur cable (probably by having the bike in the trainer) so he replaced that.  Had to get a new saddle bag as my old one broke during a ride over the weekend.

Still need to find my spare rear tire.  Change out my training wheels to my race wheels.  Gather my nutrition and pack.

Plan to pick up Scott (smeador) and Kristy (kristyme) at 8am.  Maybe a stop at Cracker Barrell for breakfast and then head down.  Hope to be there by about 2.

The mid says "yes" but the body will be saying something like an egg-white omlet and turkey bacon

No bad food until after the race..stop tempting us!

Normally taper weeks my weight goes up but this week it's gone down...even couple pounds can make running 13.1 a little bit easier or that's what I'm telling myself.

Need to get off BT, eat, go ride my bike to make sure Zipps are good and pack it up along with all the stuff.

I'll be heading out around noon.  Packed last night.  This is the first "out of town" race I've done and had to pack for.  Kathy and those flying in - I can't imagine packing for a flight.  I have a friend racing Saturday, so will be out cheering on Saturday and looking forward to the BT lunch.  See you soon.

Rookie question, first 70.3. Leaving bike overnight. Ok to leave bento box and under seat bag on bike or better to remove and just bring everything in morning.

Leave them overnight. They have security.

Plus if someone wants to steal something there are much nicer bikes than mine.

yeah, like Kathy said... leave it.  I prefer to pack the nutrition and water bottles race morning... but my bento box and tire bag stay on the bike.
