Race report for ya'll

4th place in my age group

5 mile run -40:43
15 mile bike - 48:31
Then the kayak - warning to anyone doing a race with a Kayak paddle, Use a lake kayak in a slow river, not a white water kayak, which I did.
9 mile kayak - 2 hrs.

Total time 3:28. Not bad for the first time. I figured that If I had a different boat, I would have been sub 3 hours.

THe winner of my age group time was 3:02. Had I been in another boat I could have taken one of the top three, but oh well.

I DID IT! YEE HAAAAA!

RACES:

MY FIRST TRI EXPERIENCE WILL BE ON 6-24-07
SIS Womens Tryathlon
www.vincennesymca.org
http://www.vincennesymca.org/content.asp?page=1&code=WomensTRYathlo...

I thought this would be a good starter tri for me, all women and a little less distance then the tri I'm doing on August 18th.

MY 2ND TRI EXPERIENCE WILL BE ON 8-18-07
http://www.evansvilleymcatriathlon.org/

I feel at this point in time I have reached a huge milestone, I have commited to these two races, I have made a commitment to myself to be in the best shape possible at age 45, I didn't know at this time last year that sprint tris exsisted and now I'm going to do two....wow. I do know without the encouragement and information from this website and my tri buddies I would have given up about 3 months ago, but I see we are all human here and have bad days, but we have to find the strenght to get out there for at least 10min. to swim, bike or run and realize things will definately get better and our bodies "WILL" get stronger, oh, and the big one "WE" should all be proud of our vision to be a better person and our physical accomplishments!!!!!!

DID YOU HERE ME DESTY, BREEZY, HELEN,CC, FONE AND JOE????????????????????

Thanks group!

Amy,
You will be suprized at how everything goes. I was when I finished my first race. THe main thing is to have fun and finish. It will be tough at times but keep pushing it is worth it.

I have actually started on training for a 20k race at the end of May, then aother Tri some time in Aug or Sept.

Ok..I'm a little late with April's totals, but better late than never.

Joe...200.8 miles out of 200 for the bike! Goal achieved!
Amy...46.5 miles out of 200 for the bike...but there was lots of other workouts there so excellent work!
CC...115.84 miles out of 200 for the bike....and we all know you had to split your time training for your race...awesome job!
Breezy...about 12 hours...for someone who has been so freakin' busy....you did fantastic!
Fone..about 18 hours out of 24 hours total workout goal....that is incredible!
Desty...8 hrs 15 mins out of a 6hr walking goal...no swim...2 hrs 10 mins run for a 2hr goal...2hrs 5 mins out of a 3hr bike goal. That is amazing

Well group...we kicked b*tt this month!!!!

Hopefully the wind goes down a little tomorrow.....looking forward to catching some hills

Thanks Helen, your the best!

I have an 8k to run tomorrow. I already know I'm gonna suck, but I'm still going to do it.

I would be very happy if I could manage a 10 something/anything pace, the way I have felt my past 3 runs, I will prob run a 11 or 12 something.

Oh well....

OK....my goals....but I haven't made the green squares on the calander yet...

1/2 IM July 1 and likely a full Sept 16. My only goal is to finish.....and be able to walk the next day I don't plan on any but a finsh....the 1/2 is doable....I'm very scared of the full.

Thanks for keeping track of our totals!

I'm close to committing to a race schedule but I still need a few days. Given the unproductive job search the chance that I will be moving soon is dwindling but I would hate to plop down money for a race I wouldn't be within driving distance to do.

Sorry to the group. You have been better at checking in on me, than I have been about posting. I am in the middle of exams. I have been better about workout out than my postings show, but have been bad about logging, because of the business. Trying to go back and log some of the workouts I missed logging, but will try to be better from here on out.

I'm in the same place with regard to race. Planning on doing either LA triathlon or Las Vegas triathlon in September (will be living in Vegas at that point) but will be hard to commit until I know my work travel schedule, because will be traveling once a month. So holding off.

I'm in a serious state of flux which makes training difficult. Moving to LA in a couple weeks. Planning on getting a bike at that time, and hopefully getting on a real regiment. Haven't been able to bike (no bike in Boston) or swim (they closed down the school pool) in a while. Doing ok with my runs, and in decent shape so hoping to be able to jump back into a pace to do a sprint tri in late june or early july in order to get practice with transitions before doing an oly in september. We'll see how it goes.

fone, the blogs are truly for you, not us. They help you in the long run with checking back on progress and problems with your trainhing . Never feel guilty if you can get a workout in and not blog it. Yes we would love to see it, but in the long run it is all about you. Real life always takes precidence over fun. Not that our health is not part of real life, but getting in the workouts are by far more important.

BTW, how much longer will you be in boston? If I had picked up that you were in town, I would have offered you a bike to ride while you were hear. Let me know if it is worth trying to workout.

Just checking in...how is everyone?

I'm sorta scared about my first tri in 6 weeks. Question: When you do a tri in a pool how do you turn around? Do I need to learn how to flip turn to save time or how does everyone do that?

that is a good question. According to the USAT rules, you are not allowed to push off of anything while in the water. That said, every pool tri I have done has had people doing flip turns. I for one will not practice the flip turns. I tend to prefer Open Water Swim tris over pool and spending the time to learn them is time waisted on stroke practice. I would spend more time getting a good stoke and bilateral breathing under control first.

Mind you pure swimmers and masters folks would disagreee with me, so keep that in mind

had a random thought. if you have not done it already, get your bike checked out at the LBS if you do not know how to do it yourself. There is nothing like going into a race and have the bike fail. keep in mind, now that the weather is nice, it could be over a 3 week wait for an apt. this tiime of year, so at least schedual one soon.

Joe - I took your advice and dusted off my bike

Question: What is the best thing to wear for my sprint tri? I don't really want to wear a swim suit, how about the tri suits that zip or have a top and bottom. I don't want my butt hanging out everywhere

Good question. Most triathletes (especialy non pro's) wear some form of a tri suit. It can be either a two piece or a one piece. The only suggestion I have in a two piece is to wear tri shorts not bike shorts in the pool. Tri shorts dry faster than bike shorts do. If you do not own tri specific gear, I would swim in what ever you have that can be worn under a pair of short if you are that worried about how you look on the bike and run. Word to the wise, just make sure those swim clothes are comffie on the bike before race day Chaffing is no fun
