Hi Everyone! A quick post-by

My half marathon went AWESOME! I was able to get in just under 2 hours, which was my initial goal before I slacked on the training. I LOVED the course and generally the whole thing was done before I even knew it. Now I'm thinking I'm going to have to do another, even though I swore off anything longer than a 10K *sigh*

I am also excited because I just signed up to volunteer at the Lifetime Fitness tri. I was going to actually do the race, but it is just too expensive for me right now at $150. My GF and I both signed up to body mark people from 4:30-6:30am, which means we can then watch the whole rest of the race. I'm trembling at the thought of touching an elite athlete's body!

Anyway, gotta run, I'm already having a late start to my day!

Great job on the half!!

Volunteering at races is actually pretty fun.  4:30 is crazy early!!

Sure, but you have to take me with you.

I just got to work after the hospital appointment.  Barium-based liquids are completely disgusting.  I almost threw up a few times this morning.  Yucky.

I am toying with starting my own website for those that suck, but race, and do whatever kind of racing they want to do, rather than a triathlon specific-site. There's really no place here for non-tri folks - say those like me that prefer dus or single sport races.

Hey, we don't judge on Nibbs. You can focus all you want on dus or single sport races and compete against yourself all you want.

And "suck" is relative. Do your thing, then come to Nibbs to brag, moan, or vent.

Only if you call my boss and tell her I have some rare contagious non-life threatening disease, and that I shouldn't really be at work until it's taken care of...

Done!

Um, btw, if she asks, yes, you will be breaking out in green spots this afternoon.

I can see that.  No one really talks about duathlons or single-sport events.  Personally, I think they are just as important.  I kind of like the single-sport stuff.  I think part of it is who you know around here.  Some people don't support that, but all of the people here have been.

HI NIbbs...

Happy Monday!!!

Hope all you Mom's out there had a nice day yesterday.  Mine was really just a typical Sunday (church, watch movie rental, ref boys, grocery shop).

I've spent the last two hours searching the net for photos of stadium style spin room.  My boss presented the idea to the architects working on the new community center and they liked it.  Today we mocked up a drawing and now I'd like to find some pic's but can only find one where they did one small riser for two rows of bikes in the back of the room.
If any of you know of facilities out there with this style of spin room, can you let me know so I can find pic's.
Also... the question of debate in our office... spin room... mirror or mural? (I'm voting for mural, OffMgr says mirror)  Of course I'm really pushing for a big screen with DVD theatre.

Well, it seems like the site has gotten too competitive, you know?

I mean, you've got slowtwitch.com if you want to be competitive, but even over there are groups of people who do this for fun and to stay in shape, not to crush other people in a race that really doesn't mean anything.

O.K. Scott.  I'm gonna disagree with you on this one.  Life is only as competitive as you make it.  If someone wants to compete with me, and I don't...I don't.

I do have some good friends on this site, and occasionally, we'll post bets.  I bought UTTriman a steak last summer when he beat me at the LTF tri.  But it was all in good fun.  It definitely motivated me to get in the pool.

Competition is what you make it.  We can all choose not to compete.

I'm pretty competitive against myself.  Sometimes I feel like I need to PR, when really the training or the conditions don't favor it...

Spokes - 2008-05-12 4:50 PM Sal, the type of competitive you're talking about isn't what I seem being somewhat epidemic on this site. The kind of competition you're taking about it healthy. Maybe I just see the ugliness a little more since I've been on here for over two years (shrug) Smile

Well, I'm glad I haven't run into the 'ugliness' yet.  I am a bit naive...

Haven't had anyone here yet call me a slowpoke.  There is ONE person, though...ME!

I have heard that some people on this site wonder why people give tri advice 'when their training would indicate they aren't 'expert' enough to give advice.'  Hogwash!  We can learn something from everyone.  We all learn new things together here, BOTH from 'newbies' and 'experts,' hence the name:

beginnertriathlete.com

If I wanted to hear advice from 'self-proclaimed' experts, I'd go to slowtwitch.com......(ducks)...

IMO, every site has people that are self-proclaimed experts on whatever the subject is. I visit a parenting forum as well and the 'holier-than-thou' attitude is sometimes too much to deal with. That is when I take a deep breathe and realize that their attitudes do not have to bring me down... I choose my own attitude in life.

We have murals in one corner (behind the instructor's bike) and then continuing along the top part of the wall around the whole room, mirrors along the bottom part. Best of both worlds? (The mural is an interesting city scape...nice soothing browns and blues, punctuated occasionally with red.)

So...a quasi-dilemma...actually, a "should I be miffed"?

I'm signed up to do a tri on 6/1 - just a mini-sprint at the Y across the street from my house. It was the 2nd tri I ever did last spring, and I kinda wanted to do it to see how much I've improved.

Sugar Daddy wants to get tickets to the Stanley Cup finals - seeing as how (knock on wood) our team is going to make it in and the teams they have the option of playing are 4-6 hours away. Unfortunately, it looks like (at this point) the games will interfere with that weekend.

Should I feel bad that I'm a little irritated? I know the SC finals opportunity (with all things confluencing at once - time/team/location/Monkey schedule) is a must-take, but I'm still miffed.

Ooohhhh!!!!  I think.. play it by ear, but have a sitter lined up regardless...  scenario #1.. you're team makes it to SC finals and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity (you gotta geaux)  #2.. you're team doesn't go, sell the tickets, and you still get to do the mini-sprint
This is all assuming that you can't pull out and get any kind of refund or transfer registration anyhow.

To remind you of that glass of wine waiting at home
The more I think about it... subdued dark green (kind of olive) on side walls... mural resembling typical mtn scene (ie road winding through aspen grove)... four can lights in front of room (for mural) and remaining lights on dimmer.  Then have DVD theatre as well for other options.

Why mirrors on the bottom...  Am I not aware of something?
