Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I think I am about at my breaking point with this winter weather and we are only mid January. We spent the first 4 days of the week not hitting 10 degrees and now have accumulated over a foot of snow in the last two, granted it has hit 20 degrees. I think the cure is a nice long trainer ride on my computrainer with the IMKY real course video. Hopefully tonight I can get my butt kicked by those hills. |

Is last year's athlelet guide still posted? If so, I don't expect there to be much difference. They are changing the bike course a little though because of a condemed bridge. The aid stations were about every 10 miles +/- about a mile.

Expert 686 oregon ave, | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread It has been cooolddd here too! Yesterday when I got up it was -6. With the wind chill it was -20. Crazy. I went for a long run outside today and between the cold, snow, wind, and my gear, I felt like a Navy Seal in training. Hopefully this somehow will translate positively come extreme heat on race day. |

The non bridge route adds a few nice little hills. |

Extreme Veteran 510 Louisville KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread The bridge will be out this year, the state put guardrails all the way across the road. Their is a slim chance it could be open, local eateries in that area are hurting and it is causeing traffic problems in the area. Time will tell, but I would not count on it. One other note the raw water temp. is 37.28* and the current is 1.3 MPH, if these conditions hold true it will be wetsuit legal and a tough swim up river for IMLOU 09. I double checked the registration center and you are all set regarding registration for this event. Attached is a copy of your registration application to verify your entry. In addition, throughout the bike course, there will be nine (9) strategically placed aid stations to supply you with Gatorade Endurance Formula (orange flavor) in ready-to-drink sport-top bottles, water, PowerBars, PowerBar Gel and bananas. On the run course, aid stations will be located approximately every mile and will offer Gatorade Endurance Formula (lemon-lime), water, Coca-Cola, PowerBars, Powerbar Gel, ice, sponges, oranges, bananas, pretzels and chicken broth. I hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions. Kind Regards, Ann

I've been feeling pretty good lately. I started training in Oct. and have missed days here and there...and it was rough over Christmas and New Years' Eve but I definitely feel like I'm making significant gains! I'm loving life. The best part is that I'm loving it right now and the weather is crappy (10 degrees today)...can't wait for some sunshine! |

Extreme Veteran 427 St. Louis, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Had a horrible Holiday season training-wise.......after Jan 1 I got back in the groove, swimming 7-8K per week and riding the Computrainer at least twice a week (including a 28 mile ride on the vitrtual Louisville course last week), two weight sets a week and running at least once a week....but all in all I'm in that "O.K. I'm doing the work, where are the gains/losses" stage....but I remain committed to my plan and will be focusing more on my calories and adding more running in the next two weeks! Paul |

Master 1485 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread It is pretty early to be worried about a regimented training plan. Reading over this thread, I am concerned that many people will over-train and get injured before the end of August. I think the winter months should be used for rest. Focus on your core strength and technique.

I think it depends on your goals. My opinion is you live and breath IM until race day but need to understand what each stage means - Base = Base; Build = Build; Peak = Race. If you don't implement a regimented base program now for an August IM, that may or may not be fine for some people, but me, I'd rather know where I stand than cram and doubt. A major factor behind that is my base fitness. Obviously if you have a great endurance base, you can put the build phase off a bit longer. That being said training should always be instinctive and testing should be done periodically to confirm any feeling someone has of possible overtraining. Edited by Tee2078 2009-01-27 12:47 PM |

Man, I gotta agree with you 100% on this! Way too early to be "training" for Louisville. That doesn't mean we're not swimming, biking and running but just too early to be following a strict regiment. S/B/R because you love to not becuase you have to. :-) I remember last summer there were a lot of IMKY people complaining about how tired they were and how they needed a rest. I think it was becuase they started training too early....and peaked too early. ~Mike |

I have been doing a lot of volume work for months swimming twice a week running 3/4 times a week as well as riding 3 times! Last year I did not have a good enough base and it bit me in the butt will not happen again this year! I think the one thing i learned last year is listen to your own body and apply everyones advice accordingly! |

That's about what I'm doing also. But I don't think of this as training....it's just living a healthy life. :-) Training will start in ernest in the spring. ~Mike |

Champion 8540 the colony texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I haven't even thought about training for IMKY,, however.. I did choose a 1/2 IM that I"m training for and will be done apx 2 weeks before my official IMKY starts. I'll take a week or soof just fun training whatever I feel like, getting some stuff done that I won't be able to do when the training gets heavy,, like watching some movies, dinner with friends. etc... so while I'm not really training for IMKY,, i'm training so I'll be ready to start training |
