I love the idea of a free IM weekend.  Problem is one of my favorite donkeys and recent star of "The Distance"  Djdavey is coming to my town.  I'd have to be quite the tool to ditch out on seeing him before his duathlon.  Have fun.  For those going I have a little experiment for you.  Take note on how flat the run seems during the training weekend. It will get considerably worse come race day.  Funny how that happens.

Rode this past Sat. morning with PeterAK, sgoehner, DeannaS, Amyjotris, trixie and 3 others.  The bridge was out, but we did a portage that was somewhat doable.  A little in the morning, and the wind picked up every now and then.

Hi! You guys are making me wish that I still lived in the Midwest as you have the opportunity to ride the course! This is my first IM and I'm getting very scared about the bike hills. I did New Orleans last month and White Lake, NC last weekend and felt pretty good, but they are very flat courses. Any chance any of you live in NC and need a traning partner? Can anyone offer advice to a newbie?
Thanks!

Hey Peeps.  I rode the course on Wednesday morning and the bridge is still out (obviously).  But since they were working on it (weekday), they gave us a very difficult time and were not going to let us through.  Something about us falling and they would have a law suit.  He told me to tell everyone that they would have to go around.  Seems like it will be at least another 5-6 weeks before its open.

There is a way around, but you may have to look at a map beforehand.  Stay on midtown heading east, then after you pass shady oak ln, take a right on woods, and a right on PD, then a left N. Nine mound.

I'm looking at doing a loop tomorrow AM if anyone wants to join me. I'm new to the course, so company would nice (better than looking at a map/queue sheet every few miles). I just hope it isn't windy as it was this morning out there.

As Phil said, its a very easy portage, if they are not working.  Stay to the left, there is a path from where everyone is doing it.

I've seen some threads with training totals, but it's hard to compare when those threads are for athletes with different goals. Everyone in this thread has a similar goal. Could you post your 2009 totals for swim, bike, run so I could see where everyone else is at? I'm obviously worried about my totals being small at this point (especially bike and swim). Hopefully I have time (even with a messed up foot) to catch up.

My 2009 Totals
swim: 6:47:00 - 11.0 miles
bike: 42:21:05 - 724.5 miles
run: 76:29:39 - 470.6 miles

I hate the pool if you can't tell by my time. FYI, I'm a first time Ironman guy.. just following my training plan from Be Iron fit by Don Fink. I'm doing the aggressive program w/o the pool work outs thus far.. but going to get wet this weekend.

Good luck!
