New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Lori - I know you already got a lot of good suggestions - my current snack of choice is an apple sliced up that I dip in Peanut Butter. Yum! I have also started making up small salads the night ahead that I eat as a "starter" before lunch. If I don't get to the salad at lunch time (if my day gets crazy or whatever), I eat it as my starter before dinner. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All! I am back home and want to thank you all for the prayers. It has been a very rough week but some good came out of it...my hubby and I reconnected with his daughter in a way we never have before. She is 21 now and has a 12 week old baby boy and it is so great to be a part of their lives again!! Saturday was my babydoll's 3RD birthday so it was great to come home and have something to celebrate!! I managed to get some swimming in at the hotels which my Sammi absolutely loved. I finally ran yesterday for the first time in what seems like forever. I really need to get my butt on the ball or my half mary in March is going to be ugly. My legs are a bit sore from yesterdays run as it was more hilly than usual and oh so very windy so i'm thinking that today will be a stretch and strengthen day or maybe an easy spin. I'm all in for the Feb challenge although the swimming will be difficult since my PT still does not want me all out swimming cuz of my shoulder...I do sneak it in though and have been trying to concentrate on drills. My water intake hasn't been the best this past week but at least I tried to be congnizant of it and am now back on track since being home. Mav, as hard as it is going to be healing from your surgery I have a feeling you already know that it is for the best and will make you stronger in the end. Either way, my thoughts are with you!! Terry, I hope you heal fast and I agree with the others...take it easy so you get well! Edited by Happychick 2011-01-31 12:24 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lori, I am right there with you. I have put on so much weight this past year (th?a?t? ??i?'?m? ?e?v?e?n? ?a?s?h?a?m?e?d? ?t?o? ?a?d?m?i?t? ?i?t??)? as I have been dealing with some major life changes and obviously my weight was? ?t?h?e one thing I didn't pay ?a?n?y? attention to. Everyone has offered up some awesome snack ideas and they all have the same theme that I like to follow...always make sure your snack has some type of protein so that you will feel full longer. Also, I am a huge advocate of water, water, water! Mav's water challenge is an awesome thing in so many ways! ![]() ? |

New user ![]() | ![]() It's been a little while since I've been on line but I'm back at it. My mom was admitted to the hospital with a brain aneurysm over a week ago and we spent a lot of time up at the hospital with her and the rest of my family. I'm happy to say that her procedure was a success and she is healing from home now. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Really sounds like we are all dealing with a lot that life is sending. I hope that now its Feb. and our new challenge will be our only thing we have to deal with. ( I know wishful thinking). Great workout this am, bike and ST. Feel pretty good. Work tomorrow will be a new adventure, new computer charting. Woot woot, like the old computer charting wasn't working. Okay its 2/1/2011, lets make it a good one. Good thoughts and prayers to all. |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi all - I've seen a couple of mentions of a February challenge, but can't seem to find the post that describes what the challenge is - what are we in for this month? ![]() I'm finding it a real struggle to work out six days a week like the plan I've been following calls for. Part of the reason is that I've been feeling so worn out from all the working out that I feel like my body needs an extra day of rest. What sort of schedules are you all following? I'm thinking of doubling up one day on the weekend to give myself two rest days during the week. I did that this past weekend and it left me very tired, but seemed to work out okay. Member ![]() | ![]() Hi y'all, Sorry I fell off the face of the planet for a while. A trip to Disney threw the whole family's schedule out the window. I've read some of the older posts and it sounds like this group has tremendous grace under pressure! Wow - injuries, family crisises, individual road-blocks. I'm very inspired by each of the stories of perserverance. Thank you to all of you for sharing and encouraging. OK that was enough cheese for the day! I'm back on my duathlon training plan and I also started Jenny Craig again yesterday. It's worked well for me in the past and if I don't get these last 15 "baby" pounds off, they may stay forever! I'm in for the Feb challenge. I didn't see the post, but from the comments I'm guessing it's along the lines of completing monthly totals that equal a HIM or IM. Does anyone watch training videos on their indoor trainer? I saw the sufferfest ones, but before I buy one, I'm wondering if there are other good ones? Hope everyone is having a healing week. --Heather |

![]() | ![]() Hi All, We are in the midst of another snowstorm...will it ever end???? I will be short today as I have to try to get to work ![]() Susan ...if you are tired, take a rest day, your body is telling you something. I am also wondering if your workouts are too long for you at this point. Sometimes longer workouts cause fatigue and if you build more gradually you will feel less fatigue. I will try to take a lokk at your logs later today. Sufferfest and spinnervals DVDs are fun but I personally prefer my ipod on the trainer. Turn it up and spin. I have workouts that I do on the trainer 10 min ez, 5 min intervals followed by 3 min EZ X 5....thats just an example. Keeps it interesting and the music breaks the boredom Michelle so glad you are home and life is getting back into a routine. The february challenge is IM or HIM distances over the month. So swim 1.2 miles, Bike 56, run 26.2...double it if you want to do the IM distance. Its a fun way to keep yourself motivated.....makes you go to the pool ![]() I am down 3 pounds...took up knitting at night to prevent eating...and its working. Of course I think the water challenge has helped as well as all the snow shoveling. My husband managed to get the snow blower fixed this past weekend....so thankful. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Heather - I found a number of decent cycle cross playlists on utube. I queue up a bunch and then let them roll while I crank my on music on the stereo. Next time i'm in utube I'll post more detailed info on how to find inspiration bike videos. If you find some good ones I would appreciate if you post the link here. I'm scheduled to ride the trainer tonight. All - good swim workout this morning. The new masters group swims in a pace line. I've started to give them more time to get away and then I race them done. I need about 10 seconds faster per hundred to pass the next two faster swimmers in my lane. WU: 6x100 Swim Drill: 6x50 One arm drill. 25(3L, 3R, 3Both), Swim Back MS: 3x (1x150@3:15, 1x100@2:10, 1x50@1:05, 1x300@6:30 CD: 1x100@Easy |

Your body is telling you something so I would take an extra day off. I would use one of my easy days as an extra rest day but I would still walk or stretch or something somewhat active. I think we all get to where we follow our plans religiously no matter what and forget how important our rest days are especially if we are feeling lethargic or fatigued...even if it means taking an extra day or two off! ^^^Yeah, what Marianne said...I wrote my reply before reading the rest of the posts ![]() Edited by Happychick 2011-02-01 10:37 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Alright bike gurus, I have a question...I desperately need/want a bike computer but am wondering what kind to get without spending a fortune. I have a Garmin 305 which I love but I would really like something that will tell me my cadence and will give me some output while on the trainer. I'm not advanced enough to understand the watts and all that but I would like a bit more info than what my trusty ole Garmin has to offer. Any suggestions? |

Member ![]() | ![]() Michelle: I've got the Cateye Strada Cadence. I think it was about $40 and it measures speed, distance, time and cadence. It has wires that you have to tie off on the bike, but I think there is also a more expensive wireless model. After fumbling through the installation, I'll say that I love it. I have't had any trouble, and the cadence data has really helped me focus my trainer workouts. Happy gadget shopping! Heather |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Mav and Michelle - I think you are right - my body may be trying to tell me something. My husband has talked me into calling the doctor tomorrow and getting a checkup, but I suspect that you are right about me starting off in the deep end a little. The strange thing is that I've really been enjoying it even though it's been wearing me out! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I met my water intake and I WILL get my arse on the trainer tonight. I'm thinking I will work my way towards the IM this month as I'd rather aim high and die trying |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Skipped training this am, very tired, and sore. Also it was -15 with a wind chill of -30. I didn't want to go to work let alone head to the gym. It was a very long work day with all the new computer stuff. Glad I didn't train, but can't wait to tomorrow so I can get some frustration from today out. I have found that I do better if I have 2 rest days. 6 days is just to much right now. Figured if I split a day to my 2 easier ones I would still get most of the training in and still have that extra rest. Plus working 12 hours can be a killer when you workout. I've been doing well with the water, Most day i'm up. yeah! Edited by tkr2770 2011-02-02 1:45 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning All! I finally got on the ole trainer last night for the first time here in WA ~ it just sounds funny to me when I look at it that way. My daughter was getting ready to go to bed and she was so excited to actually get to see me ride then she woke up in the middle of the night and asked if I was still riding my bike. It was really cute! This morn she has ballet class then I am hoping to get caught up on some school work while she naps and of course figure out when I'll get my 4.5 mile run in. Aaah, good times ![]() Edited by Happychick 2011-02-02 9:50 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() @Happychick- x2 on the Garmin Cadance sensor. Ideal for winter training on the drainer. Having the sensor on the rear provides feedback on speed when you riding indoors and the front wheel is stationary. Eventually you'll find yourself with a garmin edge 500 and all of your garmin gizmo's (heart rate monitor strap, cadence/speed sensor, powertap, foot pod cadence sensor) are compatible. Cheers. |

Thanks!! What is the purpose of the powertap (I've heard of it a gazillion times but i'm not really sure what it is) and the foot pod cadence sensor? Are those used strictly with the Edge? |

![]() | ![]() Michelle, I know very little about power taps but my understanding is that it measures the watts ( or power) exerted during a ride. Many people train with power to increase their strength on the bike. Their workouts are set to exert a certain amount of power. Power taps are quite expensive and for my purposes ...not worth the investment. Just my $.02 Well its been another wonderful day of snow and ice. Guess what??? we are getting yet another storm on Saturday!!!! We have over 3 feet on the ground now, you can only imagine what the snow banks look like. I managed to get in a trainer ride and shoveled for 1 1/2 hours. As an added bonus I drank all my water ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Terry, absolutely NOTHING wrong with taking two rest days. The more chance you give your body to recover the less chance of injury. Hopefully you will find you have more energy for your workouts after your rest days. Hows everyone else doing??? |
