Here are the details on the 7/2/11 - Tri-WI team ride that was touched on earlier on this thread. from the team invitation:

Preview the Racine 70.3 Bike Course with your fellow TriWisconsin teammates.

Meet us in the parking lot at Kewaunee St & Barker, also transition on race day.  Prepare to be there by 7:00 and ready for wheels out at 7:30am.  There will be a quick course talk, cue sheets/maps, and ride leaders for varying pace groups.  TriWisconsin will provide support around the halfway point, and there will be limited mechanical support and sag support.  Come prepared to fix your own flats.

Don't forget your wetsuit or running shoes!  This is a great opportunity for a brick workout.

If you have any questions, please email us at: [email protected]or contact us via the team webpage: www.triwisconsin.org

Big Legal Disclaimer:  Others are welcome to tag along, however, please realize that non-TriWI team members ride purely at your own risk.  Part of our team membership is some insurance to cover the team from liabilities should anything happen during any of our group rides.  Laughing

How did the training go this weekend Raciners? I did an ultra sprint and got 3rd place, much needed to help me realize all of this training is doing something!

Feeling more comfortable in open water finally.

Question: how long should my longest run be the week before Racine?

Please let the right answer be "a half marathon"!

way to go, Jane! 3rd place is awesome!

I rode 56 miles and then did a 5 mile brick run. New long riding distance for me!!! And that was after 9 miles of running (including 6 mile repeats) on Saturday, so on tired legs. Very happy to know I can survive, and even move afterwards Racine is looking better and better for me, too!!!

?Hey Folks!

I will be riding the course this Saturday 6/25, at about 7 am.  I plan to ride at approximately 17-19 mph (with a brick run afterwards).  If anyone is interested, I could definitely use some company!

Just found this thread for some reason.  I am doing this as my first HIM and live in Caledonia (bike course runs within a couple of blocks of my house, so I ride parts of it regularly).

Is anyone doing swims in Lake M yet?  I guess I have been too chicken to brave the cold water, even with a wetsuit (I have one) and need someone to tell me to HTFU and get in.

What is HTFU? Post how the water was. I won't be in Lake Michigan until Racine, sticking to the smaller and much warmer lakes here in West Michigan!

Got out there today.  The water was quite cold, don't know the temperature but the lifeguards looked at me like I was crazy and said I was the only one who had been in the water today (as of 1pm).  It's been cool and overcast all week, so hopefully once the sun comes out it will warm the water up a bit.  Anyway, there was an initial shock/panic when I plunged my face in, but I pulled up, recovered, and felt fine pretty soon (within a minute or two, really). I didn't stay in long, just swam back and forth parallel to the beach between the lifeguard stands. The water was very clear.  It was much easier swimming north to south than south to north.

Actually, the wind direction has more to do with the water temp than anything else.  If the wind is blowing west to east, it's gonna be cold.  East to west and it will warm up.  That's why the MI shoreline is usually several degrees warmer!

Good to know. I remember last year when I warmed-up I thought I was going to die! Water temps over on this side of the lake are only in the low 50's today. Glad that some of you are attempting the water, swimming a small inland lake tomorrow morning!

Keep posting training!

yep, definitely a different deal on the other side lake mich.  at steelhead last year, everyone was worried about whether wetsuits would be legal.  i think the official reading was 77.9 and i'm guessing they just lowered the thermometer until they got there.

Never made it to my open water this morning. My daughter crashed on her little scooter last night and had me up all night. Part of trianing, have to be a mom first!

Kids have been out of school for a week and it has forced me to start tapering earlier than I would have liked.  I did get two 90 minute runs in this week, but there will be no time for a long bike, and I may not get another long swim in again until race day!!  I guess this will be another training "experiment".  I AM staying at a Holiday Inn EXPRESS, so WHO KNOWS what I might be able to do come race day.

I did my first triathlon on the Michigan side of the lake, it was only a spring and the water temp was 62 and that was COOOOLLLLLDDDDD!!!!  It seems like it is anyone's guess what the water will be like.  I also know a few years ago, they cancelled the swim at Steelhead because of the water conditions.  I will cry if that happens, the swim is kinda my thing (see nickname).

Guppie, that makes me feel better. You would think being a teacher and having my summers I would have more time to train. I am starting tapper earlier then expected too. Going for 56 miles today. My strong part of the tri is the swim also, I was 12th out of the water at Racine last year in my age group, so cold I guess I just wanted to get my booty out of there!

Getting new tires this week, too many miles on my old ones and adjusted the neck on my bike, too high up. Hope this doesn't throw me off but I guess I still have 3 weeks to practice.

Anyone started to get the nervous grumpiness like me?

I'm flying up from Tampa for the race. Can anyone recommend a good bike shop for shipping my bike to/from? I'll probably try Emery's in Milwaukee in addition to some others. Tried to find an Aerus bike bag (Scott integrated seat post) to take myself, but everyone is out of stock until August. Great to stress about this and water temp 3 weeks out!! Thanks for any info you can provide!

I was in the same boat till I found this bag http://www.competitivecyclist.com/accessories/pika-packworks/bike-c... bigger one may fit the Scott.  Contact the owner/ maker directly at http://www.pikapackworks.com/

Igot my bag in 2 days!  And this is the original bike bag design that apparently Aerus ripped off.
