Valintine date was a class to learn massage.  Cool, then went to the pub for a beer and rueban!  I eat every french fry and had a 2nd beer.  It's been to long for a bunch of fries!  Very good date night.

Good workout this morning - all the snow is gone again!  So ran well, rode in the drizzle and than ran again.  No swimming this week, work got in the way.

Did ?you read the post about sloppy arm entry into water?  Good read it is under Tri talk page 2. (Heard Joe Friel speak)  is the heading. Copy paste never works in these posts for me.  Anyway I'm going to give it a try next time I go swimming.

Have a good Thursday.

I'm a little OCD when it comes to arm entry into the water.  I think I look really rigid when I'm swimming but I focus a lot on the form of my arms and my follow through so I can get the most out of my swimming strokes.  I struggle with upper body strength, therefore I tend to try to use my arms more than I do kicking-which isn't always a good thing because the kicking is, of course, part of it, too.

I have a question pertaining to running.  I've noticed that my bones literally feel bruised from my shins up to my knees.  Is this common for beginner runners or am I doing something wrong to cause this pain??  And I'm hopeful it will go away but it seems to be getting worse.  It's very tender to the touch and they ache throughout the day.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I would have someone watch you swim because it sounds like you are doing it correctly. High elbows, and no bent wrists and you should be in good shape.

My birthday and Valentine's all in the same week!! I ate a lot of chocolate:-) I was getting close to my target weight too until these celebrating days hit me oh well, back to work eating healthy this week.

Training is still going okay. I'm getting a little bored swimming in the pool though, gotta get to the ocean this weekend. The 24 hr fitness pool is 25 yards so going back and forth looking at the black line is getting boring for me. But, i'm glad I have the pool when pressed for time and can't make it to the ocean during the week.

oh yeah, Clam Chowder!

Just finished a 6 mile run.  Hope everyones training is going well.  Seoulgirl,  I don't believe running should make your legs feel bruised or tender to touch.  You may want visit the doc to make sure you don't have a stress fracture or something that will cause more damage and pain.  You might just want to take a week off from any high impact exercise and see if the pain goes away if you are like me just hate to give the doc a $100 dollars for his hypothisis.

TriMoTri, just going back and forth in a pool is super boring. Almost as bad as a treadmill. You may want to consider adding in some drills with and kick board and also pull buoy / paddles. Great exercise and changes it up .

I hate going to the doctor for simple stuff like this, too.  I'm not a doctor but I think there are more doctors out there that just want to shove pills at the situation instead of finding a real solution.  I hate to take a break but I haven't been running in a loooong time, so I just chalked up the pain to the high impact exercise.  Maybe I'll ride and lift next week just to see how I feel.  I don't want to lose progress on my running, though.  But I guess I have to sacrifice something for the greater good.  Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Yeah! I haven't done any drills yet. I'll try kickboard and pull buoys next time. I see them there on the deck but never considered using them.

Thanks!

How would you guys feel about setting goals for the month of March and having the group hold you accountable?

Only 2 weeks left untill the marathon. I'm supposed to run 12 miles today but with 100% chance of rain today I guess I will have to get on the old "Dreadmill". The idea of setting goals sounds good to me. I have set some weight loss goals but only have myself to hold me accountable. I figure every pound I drop before my ironman and not have to carry around for 140.6 miles will be a huge benefit. I think we can monitor each others training logs if they are in your friend list.

Hey I'm all in on a month of goals.  I've participated in the Men's Health 52 Day Challenges off and on for the last few years and the current challenge ends this week so I'll have time and need for some new/additional goals for the month of March.

I've got a lot of travel scheduled for March so time for cycling and swimming will be limited, a goal to shoot for would be helpful.

Goals yes, I would be up for weight loss, swim, bike run mileage.  Could increase by 10% to 20% form Feb totals or something along those lines.  April would be fine as well.

Not alot to report - relaxing rest day on Sunday.  Going to run 7 miles to fencing class tonight.

Have a good Monday.

Hit the pool yesterday for the first time in almost 2 weeks, heavy legs in the water.

Plan for a trip to the gym this morning and then maybe another swim this afternoon and then Baltimore MD for a few days.

7.7 miles on long run monday night to fencing class.  i was wooped at class.  New pain alert!

Ussally all pain has todo w/ left leg, hip, foot.  So 5 miles into run right knee start to hurt on outside of knee, not the knee cap but inside groove between things.  Felt like i just needed to crack my fingers but crack my knee....I resisted the urge.   Anyone have this problem before?

Any streches i can do?  Ran 20 min this morning on route and pain was still there, not nearly as bad but I felt it.  No problem on bike at all, just running.  Walking is also fine.  So help!

Rest of the week is recovery week, so I plan to take it easy.

Happy Tuesday.   FYI - I slayed everyone at fencing class!

Room for one more?

I am a longtime lurker of BT, but have posted just a few times. I have done 3 sprints over the past 2 years and I am planning to up my goals for '12. Right now, I plan to do a sprint in June, Oly in August and HIM Augusta in late September. My biggest issue is accountability and sticking to my training plans. My training plan started yesterday (2/20/12) and it will run me up to my HIM in September.

My current training plan is the 12 week basic olympic. At the conclusion of the 12 week plan, I will start the 20 week - HIM plan.

Hope you have room for me and I look forward to training and racing in '12!

I'm all for setting goals, too because I don't have anyone to hold me accountable but myself, as well.  I just don't know what would be realistic for me, especially since I just started and I don't have the proper equipment, so most of my training is done in the gym.  I definitely plan on purchasing a bike and finding an indoor pool, but a lot of that depends on financial resources and time.  But, I don't have any problems setting goals!
