I feel for you. I cannot stand working out without the HRM. In the last year and a half I think I've run once without it but it was on the treadmill for a recovery run and I had forgotten it at home and I've never biked without it in that time. It becomes so ingrained.

Good luck.

I did three hours on the trainer on a day where the legs didn't want to do it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who plays the mental games to keep on making it 5 more minutes at at time.

This is exactly how I felt this morning.  2:15 on the trainer, and I was counting down the minutes.  Legs didn't want to participate.

Anyway, went to the bike shop after grocery shopping to get a new back tire, as the one I have is all burned down from the trainer.  Also stocked up on tubes and all the other goodies you need for outdoor riding. This was my last long trainer ride inside, unless it's pouring or super windy.

Have a great Easter, all.

Good luck today, Kelly!

Great job! It's mornings like this that build mental toughness.

Thank you.  Same to you  I can't even wrap my head around 3+ hours on the trainer (on the roads, yes).  You're right; it builds mental toughness, and it's important to do that sometimes.

kaburns1214 - 2012-04-07 6:07 AM Morning everyone.  Heading to Alton Bay New Hampshire for a half marathon.  Don't really feel like running so it should be interesting.

Good luck and have fun!!

Can someone recommend a bike computer  - nothing too fancy, maybe pace, mileage? I am using my garmin 305 now to get HR too.

Also,  can someone fill me in on power meters? Rudy? They look really expensive, but someone was telling me I was not training 'right' if I don't have one.

I did 32 miles today on the bike outside. The first 13 were into a headwind - ouch! Beautiful day thought! Now we are off to VA to see the inlaws for Easter. Woohoo (not!). And we have to travel to MA next weekend for a funeral. All this travelling is going to cut into my training!!

Neither could I but now I have a half dozen rides that long on the trainer and as long as 3.5 hours. Now I can't wrap my brain around 4 hours.

3:50 on the trainer - done!  That was brutal.  But, I watched No Strings Attached, 2 episodes of Weeds, and had Pandora going at various times.  Glad that is over.

Kelly, hope your race went well. Let us know!

2 hour XC MTB ride this afternoon, with some wicked climbing and technical trails. MTB is a lot of intervals it seems. Nothing really steady.  I hope that is not hurting me. Sure, it helps with handling skills.  I'm fine with that. I have to believe all the climbing is certainly helping.  I'll say this, those damn cookies I ate the past two days, I truly felt today. It's rare, but I fall off the food plan/focus usually once overy ten days or so. And it's never really bad, other than sugar craving and giving in to it. I definitely felt it in my legs today, it seemed anyway.

As for mental toughness, i think I am pretty good with that, OUTDOORS. There is no way ever, that I could get myself to do a 3 hour trainer ride. If I can get to 45 minutes, then I can easily go for 90 minutes.  But beyone that, it's mentally tough for me.

Ran the half in 1:46 and change.  Super hilly course.  My legs are completely fried.  Would love to see what I can run on something a bit flatter.

I know you said nothing fancy, but I love my Garmin 800. Also had the Garmin 500 before this and it was great.

Awesome Job! Too bad you cant come and run some trails down here in VA. Prince William County forest is brutal but great for preparing you for hills. One day I hope to run that on a flat course or any course for that matter!

Nice half, Kelly!

Just got in from a 3 miler this evening. Got a nice avg for me, sub 9:40 pace and the first mile was under 9min/mile (in the 7's for the first half of it, too). Getting a little quicker!

Very impressive Kelly. One of my goals is to run sub 1:35 at Hartford Half in October. I ran sub 1:41 last year and it was my first. Let's see if I can stay injury free this year.

I give all you guys with massive time on the trainer credit, I have an hour each the next two days and that is total brutal for me and my underside! And I did almost 16 miles running today, so we will see how that all goes!

I had split runs today, both ended up being 1.5 hrs each. First run went great, though cold at 38 degrees, and picked up the pace alot the second half of that run. Second run started out ok, warm at 66 degrees, my HR was down, but my body felt deprived and exhausted, probably nutrition from my first really long mileage in a few months.
